    i have nothing to add to this other than "fucking same"

    but if you want to look at it scientifically, it could be a hero complex (the desire to save them from their sorrow), a connection/relation/sympathy towards what they've experienced, or just an attraction to the dark and mysterious, which a lot of people experience.

    tl;dr: normal!

    The more you identify with them the more close you feel to them. Most share connections with these sort of characters, your connection seems to be infatuation
