Powerful people who have bad attitudes generally have those attitudes--or at least act on their feelings--because their power allows them to. Cops are no different. Sadly, they carry and use deadly weapons. And they're no strangers to lying and destroying people's lives, in turn. And they also cover up for each other when THEY break the law. And just as bad, the system--from the judicial system to the executive review boards that "assess" wrong-doing among cops--favors cops, not justice.
I've always thought the problem with police--and lawyers and judges and other authority figures who can destroy us--is that they're ... human. Far too much power to entrust to animals that are at the root selfish, deceptive, and morally inconsistent. (That's not a dig at cops; it's an observation about humans in general.) Unfortunately, right now we humans don't have alternatives.
