Why can most people not differentiate between "your" and "you're"?

I just don't get how people can be intelligent, write full paragraphs with correct spelling, but most of them use "your" when they mean to say "you are". I mean, surely by the time you've reached your 20's, you would have seen such a common word being written correctly sufficient times to notice that "your" spelling it wrong and correct it?
Same thing applies when people say things like "Their going to go on a holiday", or "I hate to much food".
Am I the only one who this bothers?

For me, it doesn't really matter which they use unless you need some kind of distinction. Most of the time you can understand what they're saying, so it's not as annoying. What really makes me mad is when people typ lyk dis. What is the point? You're saving yourself half a second by not typing one letter.

I understand incorrect grammar on the internet, people really dont care. But what really grinds my gears is finding typos in published work, and on signs. They have no idea how they're portraying themselves.

People using casual websites, like this one, need to get over incorrect grammar. Yes, it's annoying. Yes, it should have been taught in school blah, blah, blah. People are typing on tiny phones and using abbriviations. It's going to happen, you might as well not get your panties in a knot about it.

no way not the only one! I'm the exact same way. I have to have correct spelling and punctuation and grammar(except for capital letters) on everything i write, especially texts. :]

People annoy me when they get these homophones mixed up, "There, they're, and their" or "Your or you're" or "which or witch" and several others, but I have to refrain from correction, otherwise, I look like a jerk.

Or I just realized my post could be misinterpreted.

    The part:

    - You ...make this mistake

I don't mean it to mean "you make this mistake, <some swear word>"

I put the - You as a method of quoting you. The ...make this mistake finishes the quote through paraphrasing.

Did you notice something? "So many people" - You ...make this mistake.

By the time they hit their twenties, they've probably learned it from others. It's also hard to break that habit, and it can resurface after having read lots of misspelled words

So, maybe the language is evolving.

    I agree 100%% actually.
That has always bothered me and everyone who knows me knows it! haha. Maybe it's just my OCD tendencies and lack of interest in modern teen slang thats talking however.

I completely agree, thats the new generation makeing words shorter and also makeing words up..as far as your and you're goes their just lazy to add the extra "re".

most of them know the correct format I'm sure. The problem is that you're making too big a dea out of it. You should probably just relax. I know the correct grammatical structure for most things, but there is no use in bothering with it in casual conversation.

I often have to resist the urge to correct people. It drives me insane!
