Why are we friends?

I have been friends with this girl for about 6-7 years (I'm a guy and there is nothing romantic. It'll be too weird.) And she had recently asked why are we still friends. I don't know what to say or how to respond, and apparently that's not normal for friends. I honestly don't know why I am still friends with her but it's bugging me that I don't know why. I feel like she is trying to force me to validate our friendship for her own emotional identity issue.
Is it really not normal to know why you keep someone around as a friend?

    • Tried once. She ended up staying with a guy that would abuse her. And then told me if I wasn't her friend she'd have jumped in front of a bus already.

That sucks ass, but you're not responsible for her or her bad decisions. She sounds hella manipulative.

    Ask her why she's asking.

    • I did ask, and she said that she feels like I don't use our friendship like I should. She said that she asks me for help and advice all the time but I don't ask or accept any from her. I've tried telling her that I like doing things on my own, but that just makes her mad. She even has it marked on her calendar how many times we hang out or talk. She does this with everyone apparently, (she showed me when I didn't believe her) and it's just frustrating!

Eww, she sounds creepy, needy and obsessive.

It sounds like she has some depression and/or obsessive issues. (monitoring how often she hangs out with people and talking about jumping in front of a bus..) she may need professional help. you've been there for her but you can only do so much. She is questioning your friendship but she doesn't have to be your friend if she doesn't want to. She could drop you too but it seems like she keeps you as a lifeline since you're always there to help when she needs someone.
