I've thought for a long time that what you say must be true. I speak as a guy who has never cared much about the sexual history of women I've had sexual relationships with. The only thing that really mattered was what was going on between a woman and me, not what she did in the past or who she did it with.

Well, let's think. There are possible religious motives, some people just want to feel special, there are possible non-religious moral reasons, who knows?

Believing there's something wonderful about being a virgin is as nonsensical as believing that someone who hasn't seen Niagara Falls, never eaten Camembert cheese, or never attended a Verdi opera in the Verona Roman amphitheatre possesses some amazing mystical quality. Being a virgin simply means you haven't yet experienced something; there's nothing amazing about it, since everyone starts out that way, and not being a virgin simply means you've experienced something that the majority of people eventually do.

I think Nikclaire's response applies in a lot of cases: a guy who is profoundly insecure about his sexual abilities (and/or equipment) would much prefer that any woman he has sex with have no experience with other men whom she can compare him to. Even if she doesn't give a damn about his lack of smooth sexual moves or his two-inch dick because he has other qualities that outweigh these liabilities, he's likely to never believe her if she tells him this. In his mind, he'll be sure she's constantly comparing him to another guy and he's falling short of him.
Another possibility is that your ex believed that because you'd had sex before, you were "damaged goods". This is pretty common in cultures and religions where women are viewed as the property of their fathers, brothers and husbands.
Some guys like virgins but I never would want to have a virgin girlfriend. Id rather have a girl with experience.
There's appeal to both. When I was less sexually experienced I would prefer women who knew what they were doing but how that that's all I've had, I kinda want to tap a virgin chick again.
