Why are so many asians materialistic? is it normal i'm not?

I noticed a lot of Asians love to drive cars such as Mercedes Benzs, Lexus, BMWs, and carry brand name bags, wear brand name clothes, have the latest mobile phones and show off about their real estate purchases and how much money they make or have. I would like to know why so many Asians are so materialistic and for me being Asian, is it normal that I am not the same way? I like to live humbly and I don't care about brand name anything. But a lot of Asians have told me that I should learn to like designer brands, should have more motivation in life to look classy and be rich, and should love luxury vehicles etc etc. They say I'm weird for not caring about looking, acting, or being rich. I'm just not interested in that stuff - I'm all about the simple peaceful life, does that make me abnormal as a Chinese person?

  • They are rebelling against the poor, repressive, conformist culture they inevitably come from.

Same with Russians, can't imagine anybody more materialistic than them. Specially women, tell the b.s. stories about romantic love but date only rich men who kiss their ass.

Probably because they do not realize that being accessively materialistic does not make you classy, in fact quite the opposite.

    Correction:

    "Here's the facts:

    All asians are not wealthy.

Wealthy asians drive expensive cars because they can.

Not all wealthy asians in expensive cars are bad drivers."

Geez. It must be the same person posting all the Asian bashing lately, and yeah is it normal they always mention they are Chinese? I mean, China is huge, but come on!

Anyway, you should notice not all of the brand-obsessed people are asian. Out of the 5 of my siblings (including myself); only two drive luxury vehicles and only one is a label-brand-ho. We are a Vietnamese family. You just need to look broader and you will see that most of American teens and young adults are this way. Asian-Americans are no different. Being Chinese, Korean, Cambodian, Hmong; got nothing to do with it. I buy nice clothes because I like how it makes me feel. One different thing about me is that I may buy name brand clothes, but I don't buy them with exposed labels or logos. I just like the design or material used. My older brother on the other hand, likes to flash the brand name. I buy luxury vehicles because I like the performance, interior luxury, handling, and dealer service. My little brother does it to show off. But really, I don't think this is any different from a white, hispanic, or black family.

Sorry, but your whole argument just shows that you are very materialistic. Being materialistic is not only to buy expensive things to show them off to others, but also needing to buy brand names to feel happy and better with yourself.
All Asia is very materialistic and very harsh when judging physicall appeareance. I lived in China for a while and something I notice was how many people drove expensive cars and how crowded brand name stores were all the time. I lived in a university near a low class neighborhood with very uggly apartments and I noticed many fancy cars parked outside.
Some weeks ago I went to Paris for a business trip and I noticed that european expensive brand stores were overcrowded with asians.
In America we buy brands but we don't really care that much, and we usually buy american brands which are a lot cheaper than European brands.
I thinks asians need to learn more values to remember them that living expensive is not going to make you better humans.

    Hey un-usual you !
You are who you are. You don't need to be like the rest of them. Your passion and peaceful in heart are gold. Not the material. Those are for empty people, and materal things are not who you are. Wgen someone die the stuff is just stuff, or garbage. Learn more life skill is much important then the material things..
    Good luck to you :)

They love favoritism, they respect and treat nice for the rich/wealthy/powerful. While the poor and middle class get treated like nobody. A lots of time they love to have more more and more without realize how to prepare themselves for natural disaster, disease, and future war. I hope you don't fall into their way because one day their clothing will gone and get eaten by a moth, moneys will become useless and throwing away from the street, they'll run away and panicking because of economy is crash down. I wish the best and live contempt what you have and have vision best for your future life.

This is the dumbest thing ive ever read in my life. If you have to fence your question with 4 statements based on personal opinion you shouldnt even have to ask it.
