Why are people so f**king stupid?

Actually when you're only communicating through typed/written language I think it because even more important to communicate clearly. As other people have already said; when I see some one typing like they are mentally handicapped, I almost automatically dismiss them. When I speak in real life I often use slang, but when working with written or typed language I use correct grammar/punctuation/syntax. If you do not use proper language when working within this medium of communication makes it hard to understand. The lack of the ability to use variations in tone and physical expression/gestures on the the internet cripples your ability to use language so loosely without losing some of it's meaning

When I see something that is written so poorly it is difficult to understand, I typically just ignore it. Why waste my time? If someone had something important to say, they would take it seriously enough to type it well.

Seriously, I get really annoyed too when people write like 1st graders... or worse. I don't think it saves that much time either. Oh, and when people say "it's just the internet, it doesn't matter," that is bullshit. Anyone who writes like that and expects to be taken seriously is a dumbass. I'm not talking about abbreviating or leaving out caps and punctuation, I do that myself sometimes. You know what I'm talking about. I meen win ppl rit lik dis 2 b kewl. WTF!!

well, personally, i get really annoyed when people who know how to speak proper english don't seem to want to give that impression online. half the time, especially in online conversations, we tend to judge people based on how they interact with others, and their use of words. although i do feel strongly the way you do, i like to sort of decipher what they write, because some of them turn out to be quite intelligent.

It is normal to feel as you do. I only come here for therapy. I can call a dumb asshole a dumb asshole and it relieves the pressure of having to deal with dumb assholes all day long. Keep up the good work

I hate it when people have terrible grammar. In an online conversation it's fine, but writing like that in real life or as a title for something is stupid.

I think some people actually take the time to write and type like this, because they want to fit in and be cool like everyone else. Really, sometimes it's not even a matter of convenient abbreviation or anything like that.

I used to believe proper grammar and syntax was just a bunch of rules without real purpose other than tradition.
One day a teacher put it thusly:
"When someone who doesn't know you reads this ______, they will just assume you are stupid and ignore it."
I have kept a dictionary and a style manual close by ever since.

Einstein famously could never fully grasp written language, The English language is without pattern or logic and therefore relies mainly on a blank sheet of memory to work with. Maybe if you had an ounce of creativity yourself you would understand this. and not judge a person by their grammatical skill, but rather the content of their work.

it's a fact that people with low intelligence and a poor comprehension of the english language dislike words that are not in the dictionary and spelled exactly how they are in the dictionary

the reason for this is because their low comprehension of english grammar makes it hard for them to understand slang

this is why people who learn english as a second language have the hardest time reading casual conversation between two english speaking people with excellent understanding of the language
