Why are my inlaws so selfish?

My boyfriend & I have a 4yo son. NYE 2009 we had a proper party to go to with food, fireworks & friends waiting for us. The in laws had said they'd babysit.
Then at 7pm NYE they call and say they're not going to babysit after all cos they want to see if they can find something to do instead.
Then at 9pm they phone again and say they've changed their minds again and they will babysit after all. but by this time it was too late to get petrol and we missed our party.
Am I right to be pissed off with them? My boyfriend seems to think it's fine.

I'd be pissed too. Find reliable sitter & go out & have fun. Make sure in-laws know & when they say we could have sat say

  • Assuming they were clear about their commitment, sure, you are right to be a bit peeved. At them, and, at your husband, who acted as if you had no cause or validation to be let down and disappointed.

You might want to straighten your bf out on where his support should lie: with you, and particularly when his parents were apparently so fickle.

Sorry, you had made plans & didn't want to miss out again. Do this a couple of times & soon they may beg u to sit again. This depends if they really want to spend te with their grandchild
