Why are guys rude around girls?

he acts friendly and nice towards his co workers
but when im there he suddenly gets quiet
he acts nervous, sometimes he will smile at me.
Before he would always be willing to check out my books, and smile and laugh along with me.
Id always kind of blush when he;d talk.
Until i came over to him asked him for a stapler, and he fumbled over, and he dropped some papers, he seemed nervous. he was fidgeting.
And I always catch him looking at me, whenever I walk up the stairs etc.

But recently, its like he wants nothing to do with me?
Whenever i walk in, he will be up at the front but when he sees me coming, he turns around and gets all quiet when he was talking to his co-worker. Then his co-worker gives me this knowing look.
He wont be around me at all. He finds ways to avoid me.

    Ok, "Excelerate" accelerate your head up your ass. The guy has a crush on ya, and at first he was too nervous to speak to you because he probably thought you were outta his league. Now provided nothing between you happened, he's probably decided that he either; isn't ready for a relationship or that you are totally out of his league and you'd blow him off, so he's just avoiding it all together. There is the possibility that he's a jerk, but from what you've said he does like you he just has some insecurity and confidence issues. If you like him; get to be alone with him a try making a move on him, gently though you don't wanna scare him off.

      Nothing has happened. The closest we've had to like a conversation was whenever i'd check out a book he would talk to me and laugh or smile and we'd quickly make small talk. That's it..
      But he would always be around me. Heck whenever we'd walk in he would be the first to look at me and watch me walk off.. now whenever I do walk in he totally avoids me. he won't even look up.

      And @ excerelate you're a dumb-ass...
      How can he hate someone he doesn't even know yet?

      Hes' 20-21... is that normal for him ? Maybe he thinks I am out of his league.. he does dress kind of... well weird.

    yo he likes you, PLEASE, please go ask him on a date and see what he says, im 99.99% sure he wants to if hes not to shy, but if he doesn't, try flirting with him until you are comfortable around each other then ask him. trust me thats just what guys do when they like a girl,

    also it would be easier if i knew, are you hot? because if not he might be looking at your ugliness.

      Sweet Jesus He's got a crush on you obvious. Bad thing is they way he shows it is absolutely pathetic and immature and will probably end up as some girls slave with a timid attitude like that. If you want a guy that takes charge blow him off and dont speak to him If you want Bambi then pick it up and run with it
