Why are american cars so crap?

Modern American cars are absolute junk, IMO. They don't come close to the reliability of Japanese cars, nor can they compete with the technology of German cars. Not even half of all automobiles sold in America over the past years have been American, and I'm not surprised over that.

I'm sure they're not as bad as Italian cars. I really want an Alfa Romeo but everyone says it is an emotional buy and not a logical one lol

Buying anything more interesting, more powerful, or quirky is an emotional buy.
Logical cars are the blandest ones, usually estates, or crossovers with less options ticked, preferably manual and under 2 liter engine.

But life is too short to drive bland and boring cars.
All of my cars have been emotional purchases and I couldn't be happier about that!

Italian cars can be a blast, but never buy one as your daily driver.

Currently? A company car. The best kind of daily driver.

Although I do have a 2017 C350e hybrid Mercedes that's the only car I own that I would daily.
It will definitely become my daily driver when I move back to Bulgaria next year.
I bought the C350e back in 2018, but I've put less than 5000km on it for the last 3 years. But from what I've heard, they are reliable, fuel efficient and because they are hybrid - no CO2 tax and money back when you first buy it.

Even more cash back if you buy said hybrid as a company car for your own business.

Still... it is a Mercedes, so yearly maintenance will be around 1000 bucks. If you're looking for an affordable daily that drives good, doesn't cost much and looks ok and you live in Europe - Skoda!

I can not recommend this highly enough! VW quality, comfort and performance for less money.
The Octavia RS estate for example... (diesel or gasoline) is one hell of a bargain... 170-200hp sleeper, lots of room, fun to drive, cheaper to maintain and the only real downside is that it's not a premium brand.

So like a passat? Or Audi? Didn't you say Mercedes was better?

Mercedes is the best, I'm a Benz fanatic, why would I own 4 if I didn't love them? But I don't daily any of them, cause I have a company car - the best daily. Mine is an E60 525i BMW.
Make and model hardly matter tho, cause you don't pay for it. It's just your shuttle to and from work.

My Mercedes' are fun/ weekend cars. I take them out of the garage, drive for fun, usually parking at safe and secure garages, or parking lots, low risk for door dings and small accidents.
              Leisure cars.
A daily is something you use primarily in the city. You don't want it to be too flashy.
People suck, vandals exist, idiot drivers exist. This is where Skoda shines and why I praise it.

It's best for your daily to be more practical and less unique... less hardships this way. Or if possible - a company car.

They are better than they used to be; but, the answer to your question is that most people who buy used cars in America replace them in 3-5 years... So, for the American Automotive Manufactures there is not much demand for a long lasting car.

My Hyundai is 12 years old with almost 300,000 miles on it. I did replace the suspension (struts) once as they wore out along with the door seals once, numerous brake jobs, tire sets, windshield wipers, and a couple sets of belts.

That's it. Of course I have run fully synthetic oil and have changed or flushed other fluids several times.

Car interior looks great as well...

I have no idea how long it will last... it just keeps going strong.

You are right that I'm not aware of any American Car that can do that.

i just helped someone change a crankshaft position sensor on an elantra

left the car dead in the driveway with a potential huge tow & repair bill

Yes, if certain sensors fail on virtually all modern cars it is dead in its track. That is not limited to Hyundai's.

My Sonata was built in the US by Hyundai.

It has performed much better than the last American Company American Made car I had. I ended up carrying a spare ignition module because it failed so often with limited warning. It would first fail into a "minimum performance mode - so you had a warning, and then fail between 30 min and 3 hours later. I got really good about changing them on the side of the road in whatever weather as they usually only lasted on average about 4 months. Although my 1st 2 failures resulted in tow jobs and a loss of 1/2 to 1 day. That's when I figured I had to carry them in my car along with the tools to change it out.

The American Manufacturer never admitted it was a problem, and within a few years had very poor sales of that model. I wonder why they had not figured it out.

Modern Nissans look crap. (With the R35 GTR being an exception)
The only new Toyota worth buying is the Hilux, Land Cruiser and Mirai (hydrogen car).
Modern Mazdas are boring, slow and look the same.
      Skyactiv engines suck.

Mitsubishi is the real tragedy here... They went from making fancy, funky, turbocharged V6 stuff with pop-up headlights, 90s futurism and killer rally cars to bland, underpowered and cheap feeling SUVs.

          Shiiiit, completely forgot about Subarus...

Imprezas are fun and Outbacks, especially with the 3rd generation, 3 liter engine ones are quite decent. When I move back home to Bulgaria I am considering buying a 3rd gen 3.0R Outback as a winter/ future family car. They sell for about 4 grand.

Lots of room, decent power, comfortable, regular automatic and with a bit of tuning it can even look cool and drive a bit more fun.

So many cars are manufactured outside of their country of origin and with international parts. A Mercedes built in Alabama, a Bmw in South Carolina are only German in engineering.

The new American cars are abit better. They werent great for quite a while but since people quit buying them they have improved quality.
