Why am i so different?

I am black or rather I am supposed to be. I am a light skinned african american male that is in the middle of an identity crisis. I am te first person that ever graduated college in both of my blood lines, going on to finish my Master's and my family hates me because they think I am turning "white". I am the same person, just a little smarter and a whole lot more in debt. My wife wishes for the black guys with the bullet wounds you see on the videos and tells my son that I am not a real man because I am not a "thug" or "player". I am so stressed out by people questioning me because I do not do "black things" I do not like rap, I do not have a criminal record, no ilegitimate children, no sexual diseases. I am crucified by this.

People do me the same sort of way, and I'm white. They can't get over the fact that I'm not redneck enough for them. I'm into computers and BMX, and I always seem to talk over their heads. They want me to dumb myself down to their level and get caught up in all the crazy things rednecks can come up with. I'm hated by some for this. I don't care.

I have met a very intelligent, different black person before that didn't act very 'black'. You shouldn't listen to them. Find a woman who can appreciate who you are, regardless of what 'black people should be like'. You seem like a good person, and be proud to be that. They are simply jealous of the fact that you dislike their crappy 'music' (rap), you have no committed a crime so you cannot get in trouble and you are a good citizen, and you are faithful to whomever you wish to be with. Never let them pull you down, use them as a reason to go further in life. I wish you luck!

Racist white people expect black people to be "thugs" and "players". Racists love that kind of thing because they can use it as proof for their theories. You have broken that. In my opinion it is you that is the best of black and it is the "thugs" and "players" that are behaving "white"

There are many black people you could draw inspiration from like Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Thomas Sankara and Kwame Nkrumah. These were all well educated thinking men. These are my personal heroes of mine(and im not black).

Whenever you worry, just think of the many black heroes and laugh your head off as you are pissing off millions of racists!

Where I come from "Black" and "White" are skin colors (which by the way means people that looks white but have black ancestry are white, like Vin Diesel is white, and Obama is borderline).
There are, of course, cultural characteristics attached to both ethnicities, but they're completely restrictive. I mean people is people; with interest, goals, dreams, hopes etc. that have nothing to do with the color of their skin.
Anybody talking about "blackness" or "whiteness" in terms of behaviour is a racist. Period.

To follow a perceived cultural identity is a choice (although the word culture is questionable when talking about gansta/ghetto). Identify with and what you want to, be yourself and don't be influenced by people who think they 'know best'.

Have you ever read the book The Pact. It's about four inner city boys who decide to become doctors and the struggles they face along the way. True story. You could probably relate to it.

Well,I'm not black so I can't really say I understand completely.
However,I have never fit in ANYWHERE,especially with my own family,so I do understand that.

Your wife should be grateful to have such a good man.To me,YOU sound normal.Wanting a guy with bullet holes, doesn't!

were all pink on the inside, it doesn't matter what color you were born with unless you have to fill out papers then just put down what you think you are closest to. :) By the way, no offense but...your family IS being a bit ignorant...and a bit racial :/
    ...just saying <:/

Your family is collectively ignorant. Let them live in the ghetto if they want. You're not "turning white" because you want to better yourself and contribute to society. They're just pathetic and lazy.

By the way, you're a smart guy so....how did you end up with a wife like that? I certainly hope you have more of an influence on your son than she does....

There are others like you. One of my best friends is like this, he's a black guy that gets flak for being a highly educated over achiever. He hates it when people saying he's turning white, or call him an oreo (black on the outside, white on the inside). Usually he just ignores them, but once he stood up to someone saying that, and told them that he was as black as anyone else, on the outside and inside, and that he was proud of everything he'd done and was disapointed that expectations for his fellow black men were so low. You should be proud of yourself too. Don't let these people get you down!
