Its basicly your afraid of somthing coming to get you because the eyes dont need color in dark rooms or nightime. Me personaly when i turn off a light downstairs i run as fast as i possibly can to get up to my room!

as a kid i was really, paralyzingly afraid of the dark. One day though I got so tired of feeling small and scared I got up with a flash light, snuck out, and rode my bike around town in the middle of the night (a small town). When I balls up't to it, I turned off the flashlight and explored the darkness, scared as hell but pretty soon it became exhilarating. Sort of addicted to facing fear now. Give something like that a try. just keep the flashlight on you. It's normal though. My ex was afraid of the dark and she was 25 when we split (not why we split lol).

I'm afraid of the dark, too. It is during those times of complete darkness, is when my brain begins to generate my greatest fears and horrors.

We, as humans, fear the unknown. We don't know what kind of sea creatures dwell in the deepest parts of the world's oceans. We don't know if spirits roam about as we go about in our everyday lives. And we don't know if there is life outside of planet Earth. Just those thoughts alone scare me.

With that said, I sleep with a nightlight. Always.

talking aloud to yourself when you're that scared will help too.

  • You have an over active imagination. Thats normal. Try to calm down though by telling yourself realistic and pleasant things - not spookie fantasies.

Being afraid of the dark is normal. We don't see very good in the dark, we cannot have a control of the things around us if we do not see them properly. Lastly, it's the fear of the unknown darkness brings. You can overcome it by trying to sleep without the lights. If you have the time, on weekends (if you work or are in school), you can force yourself into being very sleepy (by not sleeping a day maybe?) and actually having to fall asleep, pop those lights off, and lie down. It worked for me anyway, I grew up sleeping under constant lightning and just felt scared when someone would take them off. It takes time, but trust me, there's nothing there and your mind is playing tricks with you.

I slept with the light on till i was in 5th or 6th grade. Now i have to have pitch black and total silence. A lot of ppl don't like the dark so i think this is pretty common.
