Whose opinion do you trust most?

First off, this isn't on a matter which relates to you so there should be no selfishness involved (i.e. picking family because, regardless of right or wrong, you'll benefit because they'll choose the wrong answer because it benefits you).

It's about what is correct (not morally but actually) regardless of whether you'll benefit or not. It's about who in the list will come to the correct decision and which, one day, may be most likely to be proved correct.

The question isn't one specific question but the sum of all questions. Of every question possible, who in the list is most likely to give you most right answers?

Religious leaders 8
Journalists 3
People on IIN 7
Activitists 0
Academics 13
Family 38
Politicians 0
Friends 26
Scientists 36

    None of the above.
The only opinion I trust is my own.
To form a balanced opinion, you must listen to the opinions of many and keep an open mind, whether you agree with them or not.
To trust someone explicitly, you must be absolutely certain that they aren't going to 'talk' to irresponsible or Unethical people.
Some people get duped into believing that one or more of the people on your list are responsible and Ethical, but in actuality, any of these might not be, hence not trustworthy.

Please do not use -ists and -isms in future.

Hmm, is it not okay to use -ist when it means something different than racist or sexism? Scientist and journalist aren't people who are against a certain type of science or journal. Quite the opposite, in fact. I know you are unlikely to grant a concession, but I'd appeal for one here.

As for the question, would you agree that trust exists other than between two values (i.e. trust entirely, mistrust entirely). It's possible to say, for instance, you trust one group more than you'd trust another. With that in mind, my question asked about "the most trust" so relates to which of the groups mentioned would you place the most value in if you were told by them about something you didn't have the facts to form an opinion about yourself.

I understand you say you only trust your own opinion and I won't make the false assumption that means to entirely mistrust every other opinion. But do you? I'm curious because I can't see it'd be possible.

I have heard the opinions of many Science Professionals, in various disciplines, which are false, misleading or are half-truths, which some use to manipulate others. Most of these people are a Doctor of Philosophy (Phd), and for some reason, because they hold a title, we tend to trust their opinion explicitly and unquestioningly. The purpose for science, is to discover (uncover) the truth, but they, themselves, sometimes refuse to accept new ideas which go against the predominating opinion of the Scientific Establishment.
Many writers and others in Media, also are biased of opinion and use the same type of tricks as above to convey a false or misleading message, even though it should be their duty to report the truth.
Question everything anyone says. (I even caught Stephen Hawking in a major blunder, before he, himself retracted it).

Well, I can't disagree with that partial answer. Anyone who thinks science is immutably true doesn't know how science works. The laws of science are only good enough to stand up to our current way of measuring them.

Many Proffessionals in Science do, in fact, go against Professionals in things such as Religion or Politics, and vice versa.
Many Professionals in Media also often go against those like the above.
This is why, precisely, we should all stop using these -ists and -isms, because all they do is to exacerbate this, and sometimes causes hostility towards others.

      I completely agree with this.

I have only TWO people in this world that I completely trust though. One of them is my spiritual teacher and the other is my husband.... but that's all.

People are just upset they cant watch Facebook on Fox. Oh the humanity! We all must know what Facebook is changing 24/7. *tears* Damn internet lovers. Not like we can all open up the computer and check for ourselves. We are all incapable of opening up Facebook. We must be told what is going on. I feel so sad for humanity when people become this helpless.

What do you mean trust? I trust my opinion and the few I hold in high regards. If you do not seem like you are talking out your ass or out of prejudice I will always listen.

    I trust anything I hear.
But only pieces of what I hear.
You know, none of those boring numbers or anything.

    Life's easier that way.

My brother (who's an academic and a scientist).
I'll confess that he's much more intelligent then me, and he's the most kindhearted guy I know. So if I don't already have an opinion on something, I trust him to have the right one.

I think it would be just some people, who I never met. Just a bunch of people that has nothing to do with me but yet they know what theyre talking about, or at least, they see themselves into my question... They would have no reason to lie, no reason to protect you or be scared for you and no reason to start judging you.
Those answers, mixed together, in my opinion, would be the best answer someone could give me. Honest, frank and straight if it has to be..

    So i voted people on IIN... As an exemple.. :}
