Who would you save?

I'm bored, so here's a hypothetical situation. What would you do?

OK, so your in a building, a shop, and it's burning! You have to get out to survive! But there are others who will die if no one can get to them. You find yourself in a situation where you can potentially save one or more lives. First is your dog, who you love and cherish. The second is a tourist, a stranger, who you will probably never see again.

To survive, you can only save one. If you choose to save both you will almost certainly die! And if you save neither, you have to live with the guilt. What would you do? Do you value your beloved dogs life over a stranger?

Who would you save, and be honest.

Neither (live with the guilt) 3
A tourist. 37
Your dog. 47
Both (you would die in the process) 23

  • My pet.

I got that animal. I took responsibility for 'that' animal, and so I have to protect that animal because it is part of the responsibility when I got the animal.

My animal. My responsibility. I pick the animal.

Too easy. It's obvious that I'll save the tourist.

Save the tourist. You'll likely get a heft reward! Dogs are a dime a dozen. You can pick up another at any pound!

Why would my pet be in a store? Most places prohibit bringing pets inside. That aside, I'd save my dog and hopefully the tourist would have enough sense to move his ass out of there and safely escape.

I'd have a good hard crack at saving them all... Who are you to doubt my abilities?

I would save my dog. I would not save a stranger in place of my precious canine. Dogs generally have more importance and value than humans. If i were to lose my dog, I'd be horribly devastated but if a stranger were to die, i wouldn't shed a single tear. I'm not even trying to be mean here. I'm just being honest. Don't attack me please.

To be honest, it's no contest. I'd definitely save my pet. Unlike *some* people here [glares at Moonbow] I value my pets, and anyway the tourist would most likely be capable of getting himself out. (If he wasn't, I wouldn't be able to save him, either.) Either way, the pet is my responsibility; the tourist isn't.

You are so right. I applaud you, sir/mam *claps in your direction*. I feel the exact same way as you do about the matter. Thanks for seeing who's truly important in the situation. :)

My dog's so goddamn smart he'd save the tourist himself and put out the fire!

This is a really hard question to answer.

I would like to say i would do the right thing but who knows that i would do when it comes to the crunch.

By the right thing i mean be totally selfless die while saving both.

I'd be more inclined to save the dog unless the tourist was a really attractive female.

I don't always answer hypothetical questions, but when I do, my answer is theoretical.

    Stay tentative, my friends.

I would save both but not die. If it is my dog it would trust me and follow me out step by step and I'd also be able to save the person who is a tourist. We all make it out alive!! The End

    Tough decision... Not.

My dog. I don't really like dogs much, so I'll say cat.

Of course I'd save my cat! If I can get out, the stranger can probably get out too. Or if not, I'll get my cat to safety and call 911.

If I sacrifice myself, the tourist will survive, but the dog will become feral and die of a disease.
    I'll go with the tourist.

It depends on what point in my life I'm at. If I'm at a point where I'm suicidal, obviously I'd sacrifice myself.

Otherwise, I'd save the tourist. I'd be very sad about losing my pet, but it wouldn't be worth putting my family or the tourist's family through the pain of losing one of us.
