I enjoy the interaction between River and the Doctor. Two fellow time travelers, each with information about the other, plus a little eroticism. I was kind of hoping that they would've done a few River/Doctor episodes in the 200 years between "the God Complex" and "Closing Time" for the second half of series 7 after the Ponds depart (as long as we don't see the Doctor giving her the sonic screwdriver for her trip to the library).
Favorite modern companion? Amy Pond and Rose Tyler. Favorite companions of all time? Sarah Jane Smith, Harry Sullivan, Jamie McCrimmon, Zoe Heriot, Romana (Lalla Ward), Jo Grant and Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge Stewart. Most hated companions? Ace and Adric. Most useless companions? Tegan Jovanka, Vislor Turlough and Nyssa.
Fond of Pond, but I'd go farther with Martha. In the end, I chose Rose.
In all seriousness, Amy is easiest on the eye (and ear). They made Martha too one-dimensional (sadly). I thought Rose and Tennant was the best combo.
My favourite of all time is K-9, though. What's not to love about a robot dog?
