The killer from Scream.
(I know it's different people in each film but the get-up is the defining characteristic and it's great)
I think most slasher movies are shit. A bunch of teenagers preyed upon by some metalhead's wet dream of a serial killer, with lashings of fake blood. Scream is an exception because it bordered on satire and poked fun at the whole genre, yet managed to be scary on occasion. If it took itself seriously it would be down there with the other rubbish.
I'm going with the Zodiac killer and Jack the Ripper in second place.
The Zodiac killer taunted the police with many clues, but was never caught.
Michael Myers. His sheet-white mask with detailed yet expressionless facial features is uncanny. His mask looks so human, and yet so inhuman. Its creepy as shit. He's totally stoic- he's completely silent, never displays any hint of emotion, and he refuses to run anywhere. And yet he's totally omniscient- even if you're running and he's walking, he will find you. Even if you travel hundreds of miles, it may take years for him to find you, but he will find you.
It's not really my genre and they don't often affect me but Wolf Creek kind of put the hairs up on the back of my neck. There's not a lot of slashing going on (it's not about quantity) and a lot of scenes are shot solely for tension as opposed to squirting ketchup. It's a bit like a piano wire being stretched and stretched and stretched. When it does finally snap, it really does snap. One scene in particular is never going to go away.
I don't like the genre because I find them very predictable but this one got me so it might be worth a watch for anyone who hasn't seen it. Also, for anyone with a sociopath-fetish, Funny Games (either the original or the American remake) is worth a watch. I'd actually recommend the remake because I'm a bit of a Michael Pitt fan and he chilled me in this. Especially the final murder. I've never seen anything as callous as that.
Wolf Creek Was a exelent movie how every Scarry because it Was based on Real events and yes very Creepy movie
You, me, and NoraBaker really need a music and film night together. Even if we do it all virtually.
But, yeah, it is a particularly good film. I like the sense of a lack of escape route (even in conversation). I mean, they shut you down, don't they? There is no way out and then suddenly you realise there is no way out of the bigger picture either. It's really clever. Like a creeping dread. This is an oblique reference but it reminds me of After Hours (a relatively unknown Scorcese film of the 1980s which I think draws parallels) and which chilled me in the same way but nowhere like as much. After Hours is a horrible film but it made me feel the same way. In that sense, maybe worth the three of us exploring in our music and film club! We really need to set this up! I already have two bands I need you two to listen to.
Jason is the best by far. There is one set in new york and he punches a black guys head off, it is friggin hilarious. Plus there is also the fan theory that he is a stoner which they also hinted at in the remake which is cool.
I was going to go with Jack the Ripper myself...
mainly because he's never been caught.
(plus technically he's out-slashed everyone on the list since he did it for real)
