Soooo my boyfriend watches the wire and I watch the walking dead and we were debating a bit about this lol I personally believe that Daryl would whoop anyone's ass, but I honestly want to see what other people's opinions are :)so please don't base this on which show you like better but which CHARACTER is more BADASS :D

Merle Dixon was the original badass. Darryl is just a wussified version of Merle. I mean, look at him! He looks like an emo, for fucks sake!

(But then I don't rate The Walking Dead that highly. The first season seemed like cartoonish melodrama with zombies, rather than anything with real depth. So I'll always be biased)
Cartoonish? Obviously you've missed the entire concept of the show ...newsflash!!!! it's not actually about the guts, gore and zombies, its about the people among them! This show is one of the most critically acclaimed DRAMA series on television! It's about morality and survival, both physically and mentally. The whole point of the show is that the real "walking dead" are the survivors because they are basically dead inside after losing everything and almost everyone around them, not the actual dead people walking around.....and you don't consider that to be a perfect example of depth?
This show symbolizes even our own society in many ways and that's why it's so realistic! Not because they have a fantastic makeup artist like Greg Nicotero or an extremely talented cast including Andrew Lincoln, Chad Coleman (who played Cutty on the wire), Lauren Cohen, etc. But because it is the essence of survival and keeping your sanity, morals, and values under circumstances that make it nearly impossible! So continue being biased, I'll just sit back and laugh because YOU are the one who's missing out!
sorry I got carried away but it really is an amazing show! And I've heard that the wire is very good as well!

Listen, for me it's not just drama it's MELODRAMA. Predictable melodrama at that. It gives the illusion of depth, but I never really felt like there was much beneath the surface. Some of the dialogue is clunky and cringe-worthy and I honestly felt nothing for the characters.
I'm not questioning the talent of the actors - I've loved Andrew Lincoln since he was in a little British sitcom called Teachers. Nor am I questioning the talent of the make-up artists.
But the writing just doesn't work for me. I'd rather play The Last of Us or watch 28 Days Later to get my fix of a believable 'zombie apocalypse' scenario, where the human element doesn't seem so clichéd.
And that's not me simply wanting "guts, gore and zombies" at the expense of anything else. I'm not a fan of that kind of superficial horror.
Sorry to say, I don't think The Walking Dead lives up to the hype. The Wire, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, True Detective, even Dexter up until season 5... For me they were far more compelling and emotionally involving.
Anyway, it's subjective, and I'm happy to accept that FOR YOU The Walking Dead is brilliant, if you can accept that FOR ME it is far from brilliant.
