Whispering pisses me off!

OK....I get really upset when I hear whispering. I am NOT talking about I hear whipering voices...when I actually hear people whisper. It feels like a huge adrenaline rush pours in & I get pissed off. I wanna punch someone when they do it. IIN?

When people whisper I just want to punch them in the face or smother them or something! Gah! If you're going to say it, then say it- don't sound like a freaking snake with all your damn 's' and 't' noises!

  • I feel like those people are really immature and probably whispering about somebody or something else that is negative. For some reason I automatically think that people are into themselves when I see or hear them whispering.

i think what thatgirll and the asker of the question are talking about is NOT that they hate when people seem to be gossiping about them when they whisper. what thatgirll and the asker of the question are referring to is the NOISES people make when they whisper. i dont know WHY i hate it so much..i literally feel angry to the same point they mention! i want to punch a wall or something! i hate the intimacy of it or something...i wish i could say why! part of me wonders if i have some kind of trauma around whispering bc i despise it THAT MUCH!

'zactly. I think it's some kind of biological response, maybe even evolutionary. Has nothing to do with whether or not they are talking about me. If I hear it on TV, I KNOW they're not talking about me, but I have to actually mute the TV until the commercial is over.

I think I understand what the OP is going through. He's not saying he hates it that people whisper. He's not acting paranoid. It's the actual sound of the whispering that pisses me off, and elicits a violent visceral reaction in me. For example, let's say you like black pepper in your soup or your steak. You may like black pepper, but it still makes you sneeze. Lately I've had to mute the TV when any of the numerous commercials come on where they have a little kid whispering in what is supposed to be a cutesy moment. I want to throttle that kid, it actually makes me feel like there's acid inside my skin when I hear them. Think about it, this reaction has nothing whatsoever to do with whether or not they are talking about me. Usually they're talking about Disneyland, or Subarus, or some other stupid commercial sh*t. So it's got nothing to do with paranoia, and everything to do with some kind of biological, neurological hard wiring that's antagonistic to the sound of the whispering, not whatever it is they are saying.

I agree with poetessbritt that the "asker" has a physical/psychological reaction to the subtle sounds of whispering. I think a lot of you missed this point, because it is weird, and you have to experience this to understand this. I GET IT TOO! I feel a physical rush of adrenaline, as you describe, when I hear the sound, and I feel so angry and uncomfortable. When people whisper something to me unnecessarily, I can't stand it. I really want to flip out. I'm not a violent or angry person, but certain sounds, and this is one of them, give me a physical revolting sensation. No it isn't normal, it is totally weird, but you are not alone!

Usually people whisper (or lower their voice) because they are trying to be discreet and not disturb others conversation at the dinner table, cinema, theatre etc. Or are you talking about children whispering about each other in the playground?

People can't whisper? What if it's for a surprise birthday party? Someone is gonna take a punch in the face because you hate whispering? Wow, and well damn.
