    Neither should be prohibited.
    Prohibition leads to organized crime.

That directly harms others against their will who generally are not yet able to say no or be strong enough to have the chance. It is forced upon children. Alcohol and weed generally, are not. It happens, and it shouldn't, but it is not only forced upon minors as pedophilia is.

With the current state our country is in financially they should both be legalized and Taxed...Obviously talking about weed, because alcohol is already legal

why cant they both be legal?

if by 18 years old we are considered adults, allowed to join the armed forces to fight and die for our country, we should be allowed to smoke or drink whatever we want. we should have the RIGHT to make our own choices about out OWN ADULT bodies. am i right?

Drinking ages vary from nation to nation!

But you are right, there should have been a choice for both to be illegal. We've already saw what happened with national prohibition in America, and the results were disastrous.

I believe that all narcotics should be legal. (Although I'm most passionate about marijuana legalization.) I wouldn't do them, but city, county, state, and federal governments could make a lot of money off of taxing narcotics, and law enforcement wouldn't have to devote as much attention to narcotics as they do now.

i can agree with an 18 drinking age, but i have to disagree with lowering the smoking age from 21 to 18. your brain needs more years to develop.

Both illegal. Because I don't think, that if you can't be content without taking mind-altering stuff, then you have some serious problems with yourself. With that being said, I don't stop people from smoking weed or drinking. I just avoid them, because I prefer people with a straight mind.

My friends who drink become stupid, loud, obnoxious and unpleasant to be around and then throw up. My friends who smoke marijuana become quiet, contented and more gentle. Easy choice.

i think people drinking alcohol causes more accidents than someone who just smoked pot and is driving. but than again i could be wrong because there are people such as myself -that cannot drive after smoking pot.(PERIOD) and of course i simply never drink or drive for safety.
but who am i to make a judgement. although my opinion is that i do think both are bad even though i have done both in the past. everyone does it

I smoke WHILE driving. That's just me though, I can handle being high. Some people just can't. That's where problems arise.

That's because drinking has been legal for a lot longer. If weed had been legal and drinking illegal for 90 years, I think you'd feel differently.

I don't think weed has been illegal for that long, marijuana prohibition is relatively recent.

Since the 1930's, to prevent competition with the lumber industry, which was thriving at the time. A smear campaign was run to make people believe in the supposed "evils" of weed. Much of the information was fabricated to protect the lumber industry and to make people afraid.

My mom was hospitalized for 2 months in a coma with Hepatitis from alcohol abuse. She almost died on the table 3 times.
In order to prevent crime associated with illegal subtances, I'm sure it would be in everyone's best interest to just legalize both. Or at least decriminalize weed (which is sortof what they've done in California, since the fine is a smaller amount of money and without jail time for a first offense) ALL drugs are decriminalized in Portugal, which means all the "bad" ones too. Decriminalization is not the same as legalization, an improvement in crime has been reported in Portugal since. Also, it's gone to show that less kids get into drugs because with people just shooting up and everything on the streets, they see firsthand how bad it can get. In Portugal, being thrown in jail for doing drugs has been replaced with the opportunity for therapy and recovery.

I think the point of leaving out "legalize both" as an option was to get people to think. Personally, I enjoy alcohol and HATE weed with a passion, so I'm personally not affected by the cannabis ban.

However, there is an ethical component, as cannabis is used in medicine and has significantly fewer risks. So I made a bit of a personal sacrifice here, which I would be willing to do if it came down to it.

Obviously, criminalizing alcohol was a complete fiasco and made the problem worse, but think of the cancer patients.

I'd rather have marijuana be legal and alcohol illegal any day of the week.

Weed and alcahol should both be legal, but there should be laws for each. For example it should be illegal to drive while high, just like it is with alcohol. They really need to legalize it though..

While I am in favor of legalizing marijuana, if I had to choose between the two, I'd still pick alcohol. I'd rather damage my liver than my lungs, but that's just my preference. :)

The liver cleans your blood... If you toxify and damage the liver, you are indirectly damaging your brain and other organs, including your lungs. Alcohol is even known to trigger lung disease and cancer. By smoking you limit most of the damage to your cardio-pulmonary system, which in the case of weed—a drug that is both less addictive and less toxic than alcohol—is probably a safer bet. To sum it all up, your comment is nonsense.

Weed legal, alcohol illegal. Alcohol actually causes more problems like contributing to domestic violence and drunk driving, not to mention it's poisonous. Weed has more medical benefits and is not as poisonous, plus it's probably safer to drive while high than while drunk, and it won't make you beat your spouse. Alcohol is also worse at messing up the development of the teenage brain than marijuana is. So if one had to be legal and one illegal, it's marijuana that should be legal, however prohibition doesn't work so both should be legal.

I know it's proven that drinking does more damage to your system, but when I think of smoking it just seems like an unnatural practice. Drinking alcohol is like putting something into your stomach like any other food but inhaling something foreign from a plant doesn't seem right.

Alcohol is a toxin. It poisons the liver and damages the brain. There are no legitimate studies proving that weed is harmful.

I think they should both be illegal. Alcohol can be very dangerous for obvious reasons. Especially if you drink and drive. And not to mention the other effects it has on a person's body.

Marijuana or "pot" or "weed" or whatever else you call it is illegal. And that's a good thing. It's not safer than alcohol by any means! First, there are way too many chemicals and active ingredients. No one knows if the makers added something else to the mix. Something new that they've never used before.

Second, you could die at any point in time while using it. As with any other illegal drug. Why would you risk your life for a stupid high- unless you're depressed....

Third, marijuana slows reaction time. If you just smoked it and went for a drive or something, you could kill yourself by not being able to react in time. Or, more importantly, you could kill someone else!

Lol, you're fucking stupid. Weed is a natural plant.. As for chemicals and such, I think you're confusing weed with spice, which is fake weed - which yes, has chemicals because to make spice an inactive plant is spritzed with chemicals to simulate a weed high. That IS dangerous and just stupid. Also, you can NOT overdose or die from marijuana use. You know nothing, go get your facts straight. GTFO

Get over yourself. You get drunk when you booze out, people get high when they do weed. There is nearly no difference. You can't hate every person who does weed, I doubt you have tried weed or know anyone who has smoked it.

Don't categorize a whole lot of people who smoke a plant when you don't know anything about them.
