If I see anyone crying, at first I'd always make sure they are physically OK and safe, but beyond that I'm useless! I get uncomfortable. If I try to console anyone over the age of maybe 11, I feel so fake. I mean, if there's nothing physical I can do for them like help them get home, or stop the bleeding, then forget about it!!

If it's a woman, it always seems like it's something trivial or not THAT big of a deal.

With men, to be honest, almost every time I've seen a man cry he's been drunk. I've seen so many guys get drunk and cry about how they are a bad father, husband, whatever....

Kids-I'd be way more inclined to do something to cheer them up. Of course, I'd check to make sure they are not hurt or in danger first....

Not only is it harder to reduce men to crying, but it's also rare to see a man in public crying. If they ever do get emotional, normally they go somewhere rather secluded.

It's kinda normal to see women or children crying, so I say that what would disturb me most is seeing a man cry hysterically. But I would be more inclined to comfort a woman or child.

Yeah because when man cries you know something bad has happened to him like a death or something.

A man crying hysterically. It takes more to reduce a man to that, so I'd think something truly terrible had happened.

People hysterically crying in general bothers me :/ I've cried like that once in public back in high school when I had a panic attack. It's not a good feeling (obviously). I don't know how to approach people when they aren't crying so I couldn't even imagine trying to comfort someone who is and hysterically at that.

  • A man hysterically crying. I would instantly feel sorry for the guy. I would bust my brain trying to figure out what happened. It would also bother me a lot to hear a baby hysterically crying but I don't like it when babies cry...it makes me think they're being abused or something. I have an extremely soft spot when babies cry...sometimes I want to cry with them.

  • a man. They tend to bottle things up, and crying probably symbolizes something horrible had happened just then ( wife / child died ?)
TBH women and children cry about everything ( I'm a woman , with plenty of friends whom cry about stupid things )

A man crying. If a man cries, that means that something really, really bad has happened. Women and children can cry for stupid things.

i just cant stand loud criers. its the moans they take between sobs that really bothers me.

I hate it when women cry because they often cry for anything. If a man cries, you know it's serious business and it's okay to cry because of truly distressing things.

Thus, I'd rather comfort a man. if I were to comfort a woman I'd most likely try and make her feel worse just for the sadistic fun of it.

An adult crying doesn't really bother me. They'll get over it eventually. But a kid crying is a sad thing.

I don't like showing of emotions period. Get mushy and teary-eyed with me and I'll slap you, male or female. As for children, I absolutely can not be around them, crying or not. Listening to a crying child feels like having my ear drums carved out with a rusty ice cream scoop.

I voted that a man crying would affect me the most. But the more I think about it, I dislike it when anyone cries. Like almost everyone else, I just don't know how to approach them w/o being annoying.

I agree seeing a man cry is the most disturbing. When I grew up, I often saw my mom cry (she suffered from severe depression). I never saw my dad cry, but I knew he did once after my brother got himself into serious trouble. Imo for most men crying, particularly in public, means having reached a breaking point. And there's the added humiliation for allowing themselves to fall apart like that, which is still seen as less acceptable for males. Not to sound sexist, but I feel women have an incredible capacity to deal with pain and bounce back most of the time.

Actually they don't. Women break more and stay depressed longer. More women are depressed than men.

Women are more susceptible to depression, but less likely to commit suicide than men.

Suicide isn't always intentional. Plus men have higher mortality rates anyhow.

Yes, they do :( Higher mortality rates and lower life expectancy. Not sure what you mean by unintentional suicide.

Disturb me? If it's least expected, and the person is crying hysterically, then yes. I feel like I want to say it's alright, but when I don't know them, you just feel that space between you two.

i dont quite understand what you mean by "disturb". are you referring to which annoys me more, or which upsets me more and urges me to comfort them... because i would be more annoyed if a man cries, cuz really, a man shouldn't cry in public. I wouldnt really be tempted to help comfort a child, because that would seem strange since im not the parent or legal guardian of that stranger child so it might seem like im some sort of pedo.. but yeah, i would be most tempted to try and comfort a woman..

still not sure what to pick for which disturbs me most :/
