Which path to choose when they are so different?

I am a writer. I love writing and seem to have more advanced and matured thinking for my age. I think a lot too, about things to write and they seem like okay ideas. But lately I've been researching phycology and I love it! I find the human mind very interesting and would love to read more into it. But my love for writing still hasn't changed. I love them both and would really like to pursue a career, but in which one? My dad is trying to talk me out of phycology and trying to help me write (he is only doing that because he thinks I'll go insane because of the stress). Of course I love him, but I'm really interested in phycology and still enjoy writing and quite frankly I am a good writer (I am very humble by the way, I don't like to brag) but I could be a good phycologist too, if I studied it more. I don't know which career path to choose. Is it normal to love two things that are so different?

If you become a psychologist, go into private practice and don't work for an agency that deals with Medicaid.

Phycology? Really? You're a "writer" and can't spell?
I'd recommend the PSYCHOLOGY field for you
...just be sure you learn how to spell it first.

Psychology is a great subject. Write self- help books!

The answer is simple, do phycology as a major, and in your own time, write what you want. Like I am writing a fictional book, and I am an accounting major, I also have a mature mind for my age, but I know that accounting is going to pay my bills.

For me it was med school or art school. I picked art but am changing over to med school soon. I'll continue doing my art on the side however.

  • Are you my missing twin? I'm the same way, but I want to be a forensic psych, and I'm kinda working on it.

Writing is a very important skill to have when going into a psyhololigical field. Though it will be more technical writing, those skills won't go to waste. On the flip-side, you could spend a lot of your effort representing the researchers of the human-mind or write psychological thrillers and whatnot! So write about what your interested in or do what your interested in... whilst writing ;)

I am the same way. Doctor or chef? Haha it's hard to decide when u love them both for different reasons. I think being a phsycologist u can still write on the side. You could even write about phsycology haha. Keep studying and see where it takes u, maybe u will realize that's not for u. But u can still write either way. It's just that the writing will be placed second if u choose phsycology. U just need to keep thinking about it and decide what would make u happier.
