Which of these lifestyles would you prefer?

If you picked the first option, you'd be given say 10 million dollars so you could afford to live like a celebrity, but you'd have to continue to go to work everyday at the same job you do now until you're about 67. You'd never get a promotion to a better position and you're not allowed to bribe your boss to make the working conditions better for you or anything like that.

If you picked the second option, you'd never have to work again so you'd have loads of free time to spend on your hobbies, but you'd only be allowed to buy a very modest home and possessions (even if you could afford more luxurious ones). You're not allowed to move to a tropical country or live any more extravagantly than someone on the working wage can. (PS. You also wouldn't be on unemployment benefit so you don't have to feel guilty about leaching off society or anything).

Edit: The reason I'm asking this question is because I want to find out what's more important to people, money or time. I want to find out what's the most important thing about being rich for most people, that they can afford to retire and have more time, or that they can afford luxurious things.

To have millions of dollars so you could afford anything you want, but you'll always have to work 14
To never have to work again, but only be able to buy a modest apartment and possessions 21

Ever since college, I have enjoyed finance, economics, and investments. But, there is a problem with a $10M net worth. At this level, you have already become rich. This puts you in wealth preservation mode which is basically boring. Yes, a million dollar dream home on a lake would be luxury beyond comfort, as would short international get away vacations.

But I chose Option 2. I'd buy a nice motorcycle, a little 2 bedroom house, and decorate the place so it's really cute. I'd still live 10% under my means, and invest that 10% just for fun. Cheap hobbies like camping, archery, aquariums, reading, music are almost free. And if you're creative, you can make these hobbies broaden your horizons just as far as what is considered standard for an upper middle class salaried guy. I mean hell, why not rent your house out and go camping in Europe? Buy a car when you get there, sell it 6 months later when you return.

Being a manager and business owner is what I want and I enjoy doing it. So, option 1 is the choice for me. The extra money is always welcomed, as for retirement... I was born in '92, I doubt my generation, or those after me will have the chance to retire... probably have to keep working until we die. The only alternative is save enough money, "retire" and live off your savings.

So, I'll take my 10 million dollars in 100 dollar notes please XD

Neither. I enjoy working and gain pleasure out of making my own way in life. I don't care if I get rich, or if I am homeless, as long as I can honestly say I charted my own path and got there by my own devices, I will be content.

I see I got a down vote so let me put it in a much more simple way.

I hate rules, authority or anything standing in the way of me, being me. So if given an option like these two horrible alternatives, I'd rather burn the house down, run nude into oblivion and enjoy being free.

There is NO price for ever giving up freedom, of any kind.

There is no price tag on freedom, that is the most important thing in life.

I’ll take the millions and work since I like my job. I’ll take that with 8 weeks vacation and working part time 20 hours a week. Thanks.

No that's not allowed, if you choose the 10 mil then you'd have full-time working hours (35-40 hrs/week) and 3 weeks holidays per year.

Sign up for jury duty and fake one family member dying off each year, for the bereavement leave.. That should get you a few more weeks off.

    Nik is hell on wheels.
    Id pick option 2.
Because family matters more then money.
I only work long hours because thats what is nessesary to stay comfortable.

What if I already live in a tropical country? Can I stay here and live meagerly?

    Then I'm in!

I would pick the first and just quit working and make the 10 mil last but assuming that's not allowed, definitely rather have the second option.

I'd way rather work less and have more free time than work a lot and have more.

I want to have millions of dollars, and start a business that specializes in babysitting Siamese cats, and testing pillows.

Would your job be chasing around Siamese cats and beating them with pillows?

Nope, I would just lay on the pillows, and cuddle with the cats.

I Would pick 2, and just to tell you I would not feel guilty about getting unemployment! What person wouldn't take free money, especially a poor person. I would feel more guilty being full time employed at something like BP that pollutes and kills animals, or even something like them timber places that rape our forest. Some people are dam crazy the way they think.

I absolutely agree, I'd sooner risk losing unemployment benefit than work at places like those. I just added that because I was unemployed for a while and I did feel a little guilty for living off of other people's money, even though I was trying to find a job. I know I shouldn't have since there wasn't anything more I could've done about it, but still it's hard not to feel a little bad about it.

Yeah but the ones paying the high taxes that then go towards unemployment doesn't come from your average hard working joe. The ones paying these extremely high taxes are large companies like BP so don't feel bad. The way I looked at it was "well this earth is as much mine as it is anyone's, I didn't give someone permission to pollute it or rape it, you greedy c*nts will just have to pay me when I need help, seeing how you help yourself to mother nature the effects us all".

Cool thanks, that's good to know. I won't feel too bad then if I end up on unemployment benefit again.

Well considering mg career choice I'll never get rich off of anx I plan on living in a RV just following work that's pretty easy. Option 2. I couldnt even spend 10 million. A million if 2 yes but if I was really gonna build my dream home of dream homes I would need way more money. 10mil is like right in that sour spot. Besides I wouldnt be able to go to mh dream home then. Option 2 easily. I like working. And it doesnt say I cant work wich just increases the amount of money I have. Its perfect
