Sometimes yes and sometimes no, the sayings are about as accurate as a blind hedgehog operating a catapult.
I would say it's a pretty poor flock that only has two birds. I'd just call that "some birds".
Aside from that, I don't think either similarity or difference is as important as compatibility. If one person loves cooking and another person hates it, they'll still be okay as long as the second person likes eating.
I very strongly believe that, for me, similarity is essential. I think the "opposites attract" is bollocks. I don't find a right-wing, alcohol-hating, over the top meat-eating, religious fanatic, Nazi nutter who hates animals is particularly attractive.
Me and my boyfriend are extremely similar and that's perfect for us. Maybe not for other people.
And at the word boyfriend, little shuggy's dream of happiness was dashed...
But yeah I think it depends on the severity of the "opposites". Like when u have a really tall guy with a really short gal. Or a goof, dysfunctional person with a more serious, organized person cause they make a balance. Someone that was a pure opposite I dont see working out
In terms of in-the-moment romantic and sexual attraction, I think both similarity and difference can be very attractive things. But for a long term relationship to keep working, I think a degree of similarity in some areas is really important for most people to avoid compromising their own individual values while still feeling connected to their partner.
It helps to be synchronized on the big things, like values and morals. But, differences can add interest to a relationship, especially when they are appreciated and respected. Everyone is unique, even people with similar personalities, so it's a bit of both.
BOTH
the differences keep things interesting, the similarities keep you comfortable
How boring a relationship if you had exactly the same opinion on everything. Also, you would have to hide your favorite foods from each other all the time.
