Home robberies bother me the most. People are supposed to feel safe in their homes, and intruders not only steal possessions, but also that feeling of safety and security that everyone should have.

I agree. If someone steals my car i would still feel relatively safe. If someone were to rob my house i would feel violated and probably have a hard time getting back to my normal routine without that sense of fear.

"Cyber theft" isnt exactly theft, because if you steal a car, the person you stole it from doesnt have it anymore. But if you download a song from someone, the other person still has the song.

Anyway, stealing from a house is probably the worst because there are belongings which could not be replaced and mean a lot to the owners.

    • Some people see taking music and movies as theft, some don't. But cyber theft would include stealing bank accounts and credit card info, as well as craigslist and ebay scams, etc.

In one way it's true but if everybody thinks like that there will be no more industry. No music, no software, no books, nothing. Those who provide these services for free (i.e. open source,...) out of passion only shoot themselves in the foot because they still have to pay rent, food, transportation, their computer, musical instruments etc. So instead of being able to get income from what they love doing they are forced to get... a regular job.

Robbing a home. I've been burgled. It's not nice knowing someone has been through your personal belongings and lifted anything they think of as valuable. When the next door neighbour was robbed, the thieves shat in her bed and also in her dessert bowls.

I understand (from a friend) that the tension of robbing a house often causes the bowels to need opening. What I don't understand is why burglars forget the existence of toilets.

lol, yes, I'm the very same dappled. I didn't cause enough trouble in my first time around so now I'm back to finish the job. My target is five unplanned pregnancies, four fist fights, three counts of typing while under the influence, two unplanned flashings, and a partridge in a pear tree. Although I'm flexible on the partridge.

Good to see another of the old users is still around. :)

You're only saying that cause you're not smart enough to do it yourself

      • I happily admit to not being able to do it, and no, I don't say it's pathetic because I can't do it, if I wanted to I could learn from the multiple people in my family that knows how to hack, etc.

Theft is wrong all together, but doing it behind the safety of the internet is just pathetic.

          • I don't mean downloading sites, I mean theft from other people from the internet, scams, credit card scams, etc. Downloading isn't exactly stealing, it's copying without permission.

Grow up. Almost all acts of cyber theft are covered by insurance expect for the cases where the victim was blatantly retarded. If you send money to a person you don't know based on something they "told" you they'd do then you deserve to get ripped off. Don't be stupid and use trusted sites.

          • Grow up? Yeah, because thinking cyber theft is pathetic due to not actually putting yourself right in the middle of the actual crime, but doing it behind the safety of the internet is not being "grown up". Moron.
Oh, so now you're implying that if someone is idiotic enough to fall for cyber theft, then they deserve it? Great way of thinking.
And a lot of cyber theft doesn't just include giving someone money by asking for it, which I thought you would of known, but I guess not.

Sorry if I sound harsh but the bottom line is the internet has never been secure. If you put ANY information on it than your taking a risk and it's a risk you chose to take. What are these other methods of cyber theft that you're talking about? Anything involving a credit card is typically discovered and dealt with within days. Identity theft? Don't put your information on untrustworthy sites. Keyloggers and virus's? There is an abundance of free software that easily combats this problem. In a world as fucked up as we live in I find it hard to feel sorry for the people who run into problems because they did something stupid on the internet. Use a little caution and there is almost no chance of being a victim of cyber theft. That can't be said for any of the other crimes in the poll.

Sorry now I understand what you mean and yes that does piss me off it wasn't but a couple weeks ago someone in another state had stolen our credit card number but the bank cancelled when they tried to use it and we had to get a new number. Again I'm sorry I get what you are talking about now and it is pathetic that they have to hide behind their computers

  • Stealing a wallet or purse.
Most of those other things can be reimbursed through insurance. And I don't have a lot of sympathy for gamblers.

Next I think would be the cyber-stuff.

I vote for the house, because wallets/purses can also be in there, and other valuable things, along with a car in the garage. You can get in from the inside.

  • bleach_baby

Robbing someone's house is traumatizing for the victim and compromises their sense of security, so I think it's the worst. Followed by wallet/purse for similar reasons, as well as the personal element of the crime.

  • sassafrassi

I voted stealing wallet/purse. If I were out (far from home) and someone stole my purse I'd be screwed. House key, car key, bank cards, phone. In all honesty I only know one persons phone number by heart. XP It would be very inconvenient.

Im sorry but if anybody tried to rob either myself of my home they'd be faced with a loaded firearm. If I was out of the house at the time of the robbery it would be a different story.

Call it insensitive but none of it bothers me unless it were to happen to me directly or someone I love. There are much worse things going to to waste time thinking about theft. I'll leave that to the police.

Now if it happened to me, I think I'd be the most pissed if my car was stolen.

I don't think anyone would attempt to rob my home unless they want to tangle with both a rotweiler and a pitbull.

At first, none of these bothered me

Then I pictured one of them happening to me lol

I'd say cyber crime pisses me off most.

  • Thieves in general are dispicable. From this list, I have to go with a home robbery because of the deeply personal nature. The victim not only loses property, but also feels the burn of intrusion of personal space; similar to, though nowhere near as severe as, rape.

...please note the "nowhere near as severe."

I would actually say robbing a bank. Depending on whether they steel all the money or some. Usually all, think about all the money people had saved up and they can use it. It's where most of your money goes. I personally don't have a safe at home and put all the money that I save up into my account.

Then is would be robbing a home because all the memories that you had stored there could of been stolen, all the expensive stuff like your jewelry, electronics and possibly even your car if they knew how to hotwire it.

    • The money in the bank is insured and the customers don't lose anything.

Yeah, I would have to agree that being robbed in your own home might shake a person to the core the most. (I chose this option by the way).

You could argue for any other option; they all seem about even in my opinion.
