Harry Potter, simply because it's been a lifetime in the making. Those of us Harry's age have grown up with him and have been into the story since elementary school. Twilight is too much of a flash craze and I'm so sick of vampires and the cliche supernatural.
If I spend most of my time laughing through Twilight does that count as good?
harry potter was quite good, lord of the rings was good too, his dark materials would have been good if they did it properly and if it didnt get cancelled, and i think the dan brown books are doing well as films. however, i think, if it had been done closer to the books, the saga of darren shan by darren shan would have been pretty kick ass. even had a decent cast. but tbf it would have needed at least 3 films to fit the 12 books in. but they seriously ballsed it up, so meh
Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy are better than either. It's a shame the trilogy was never completed in film because its religious subtext was seen to be at odds with prevailing thought in one country, while Dsn Brown's absolute cack is lauded because the subtext in his "books" is on message.
"his dark materials" is brilliant but the movie barely captured the intent of the books.
Personally, I think LOTR far outshines the potter movies (but I still enjoyed them) and twilight is similar to dan brown- books purely written to take advantage of the movie money making industry.
Couldn't agree with you more. In movie form, it was delivered as something people would accept (and didn't). In book form, it was challenging people to examine it for what it is. As for LOTR, less contentious and therefore "allowed" to exist in today's Americanised society, but I think that Peter Jackson made a really good job of it and I'm glad he got this past the world censors.
Beowulf is a saga. The Odyssey is a saga.
Harry Potter? Twilight? Those are pop novels, not sagas.
twilight is fuckin stupid, harry potter they ruined, so can i pick a trilogy instead?
LOTR had a good movie adaptation i thought. the HP movies were hit an miss. Although I didn't read all the books.
And to be honest, I think the Twilight films actually represent the books well....it's just... you know....they suck
I like both of them.
What needs to be re-filmed....
Eragon - the only good thing in this was Saphira's special effects and Jeremy Irons.
Dune - something between the original film and the miniseries please
Percy Jackson - what the hell? Percy is like 12 years old... they turned him into an 18 year old and sexed the film up. O_o
I put other. Dune, by Frank Herbert. The various movies made a while back are terrible and dont follow the story too well, but the books are fantastic.
