You are right on the dot.

People are influenced in the beginning of life and then as they get older and wiser they choose what steps to take. Hopefully they would be the right steps too.

If they were abused and neglected when they were born of course they wouldn't be stable. I don't think people have a right to think they are stupid, it because the way they were raised; it effects their emotions deeply. They need a lot more help than people that were raised well and loved. They most certainly need love too; which include people who are really insecure and negative. Yes, maybe you can't help them but you shouldn't hurt them back just because the way they behave which was how their past may have been. Of course there are ways to correct the behavior without hurt involved and with defending yourself the right way. Also most likely they need a therapist to help them.

I don't think we choose to be the way we are. Not that we don't have any responsibility, just that I can't say "I want to be a better person" and that will be enough to make me a better person. I can have a motivation to be a better person, but isn't that motivation already a part of who I am? Hmm, I don't think I'm wording this well. I guess it's a very complex thing, and I really don't know nearly enough about it. It's interesting though.

A person is a product of their environment. The environment you grow up in causes you to develop a certain type of behaviour that you'll repeat and these will mould you into being whoever you are and they play a large role in choosing who you want to be because you learn from your surroundings which behaviours will pay off. Repeat that behaviour then overtime it becomes your character.

In my humble opinion it's foolish to believe it's one or the other because it's nearly always a combination of both.

    Nurture and nature shape us.

Our experiences inform our understanding of the world and how we choose to respond to it, our nature dictates our probability of responding in certain ways. It's quite straightforward really.

It's a combination of both. But mainly how they're raised. I think the way we are raised determines the choices we make. I also think that once we realize this, we have the freedom to change if we want.

To me people are formed by how they're raised whether it's for good or for bad. Also I think say if you were raised in a bad house hold it can teach you what not to do, what you don't want to do when you grow up. Like someone who has witnessed abuse could either become abusive, become abused, or learn from it and never let it happen to you. Everything we experience shapes who we are, whether it's for better or for worse.

Initially (and mostly) you are formed with how you are raised, as you get older and less naive, you CAN change how you think and decide things for yourself, but it is a little more difficult, and you must have an open mind.

I think its how we're raised because even the way we choose to be depends on our thoughts and choice which is effected by what kind of interaction we've been having since the start...
the way we're treated, the way we see things being done , the way we're taught about different things ,the way we see suitable behavior...is all that really matters... all these things have constant influence on our behavior and perception ...

  • I feel like I choose who I am. I make those choices from within myself, not based off my environment. Anyone who says that they had no choice in their actions and blames them on what other people told them to think is weak minded.

I keep seeing this. When will people realize the world is not black or white and it never will be. Things are a lot more complex. Nature versus nurture is bull shit. That is not the only thing that makes a person. There is a range of other things that are involved. You need balance and that goes for all things.

Nature Vs Nurture. That would be #5 on your upcoming final, now wouldn't it?

My question to you would be, "Is it true that a student is likely to fail any given test based on false answers obtained through cheating?"

Take THAT to the bank, ya little skallywumpus wank!

It's not a black and white matter. People are very deeply influenced by the way they are brought up, but not entirely determined by it.

Its a bit of both. However, what is chosen all depends on the situation.
