Which is more offensive?

my friend and were having a conversation the other day when she said "that's so gay." i told her that she really shouldn't say that, but then she pointed out that i have a really bad mouth(which, i'll admit, i do. but hey, im working on it!). she says cursing is much worse. i obviously disagree. cuss words to me are just... words. but i honestly don't see how "that's so gay" can NOT be taken the wrong way, when "gay" is used to describe someone's sexuality. its like saying that "stupid" and "homosexual" are synonyms. also, let me point out that she meant cursing frequently and repetitively especially when there's no need, not just cursing in general. thoughts?

"that's so gay" is worse 11
curse words are worse 2
neither 9
both are really bad 5

I think casual homophobia is always worse than using generic swear words, because using word "gay" as an insult specifically implies being gay is a bad thing, or that being gay is synonymous with being inferior.

      Incorrect.

Words have injured or killed many, many people throughout history and pre-history.

Please be very careful how you use them.

      Thank you.

        Shut-the-fuck-up.

It is not the words. It is the people, idiot. Words can do nothing. It is only what people do with them. The words are innocent.

I will use them as I wish.

        Fuck you.

You know, "gay" is actually a compliment for me, not an insult.

"Hey, you look totally gay today!" - "Thank you!"

I still don't like people describing negative things with this word. They have no idea.

Both are annoying. I feel like cursing brings down the conversation, or dirties up life more than is necessary. At the same time I am way over the phrase "that's so gay" although I caught myself use it a few days ago and was like "whaaat."

I like swearing too much to give an unbiased answer :P

Hah. No, I just think it's the intent behind the words that counts for more than the words themselves.

I swear that for years now the only insults are "you're gay " and "you're mum".

Your friend is incorrect in her speech.

'Gay', usually refers to a person. A person is not a 'that', but a 'he' or 'she'.

Synonym discussion: lively, animated, vivacious, sprightly and gay mean keenly alive and spirited. Gay stresses complete freedom from care and overflowing spirits <the gay spirit of Paris in the 1920s>..
