Which is more important to you, liberty or security?

And yes, they are opposed to each other and mutually exclusive.

Interesting point and I'll add to it rather than answer it. My local airport employs scanners that see you as effectively nude. If it works, it'll be rolled out nationwide. Do you want your three year old daughter seen naked by anonymous men in a room (security) or do you want terrorists to have the option to hide explosives on their three year old children (liberty)?

    Difficult choice.

    We weren't born with restraints.
Being controlled by others is not natural, nor is it healthy for anyone.

    Security.
The reason we have liberty is because the person who thinks he/she is making us secure isn't.

I honestly think these are false choices. When liberty is spoken of (at least in the USA) the underpinnings are in relation to speech, property rights, ordnance rights, and recognition of equality among adults with regard to the application of law and interpersonal interaction. At it's core, these values don't stand in opposition to the pure concept of security: a nation in diplomatic cooperation with other nations, a competent and well trained military, a cohesive and fair structure of jurisprudence and enforcement, and quality control.
Problem is, personal ideologies held by our representatives that don't fully encapsulate these basic principles. Often times the voices of our very representatives don't reflect that of the constituency. Half-truths are told, panic spread, palms greased and policies are set in place that favor private interests (eg: Pinkertons, Blackwater, etc).

security imo ... when i think of liberty and all of the downsides it definetly has more downsides than security.... but we also need some space from security , to much security can make us mad and do stuff ... ._.

Liberty or death nothing less. Why have security when it means you sell out your rights?

Unfortunately while Liberty for the majority of people would be good there are those who would abuse it and make a world even worse than one that is over-protective and over-restrictive.

There is a huge difference between liberty and libertine.
When you have liberty, you use it applying moral restraints.
When you have libertine, you don't care about other people's liberty and you do what you want(kill, rape, steal, hurt)

With liberty you will be happy, no need for libertine.
If there is no libertine, no need for security.

    Did I make my point?
