I voted for pets, because I have the only cat who fetches Rosary beads, and bags of weed. He's a good kitty.

    Thanks, one of my favorite memories was coming home from work, walking in the front door, and seeing a young Siamese cat descending the stairs with a bag of weed in his mouth. He's quite nearby enjoying my most recent hot flash. He knows what's up.

I do not like any of the categories. Maybe that is because I dont search by category, maybe its because i see categories as a way to tag a post knowing full well that I only view off the home page...

If I HAD to pick three I liked, it would hobbies, hygiene, and observations. Three I hate/ tired of seeing are politics, politics, and you guessed it, politics (I know those arnt real categories, but i guess they fall under thoughts and beliefs)

Cars/Vehicles/Roads/Transportation
Crime/Law/Cops/Prisons
.....
and the Trump supporter's favorite controversial category,
Firearms/Weapons/Patriotism. (I hope this one is excluded.)

    Nope. I'm a fan of diplomacy. Owning firearms is fine. But we have an international crowd here. Talking about guns constantly to an uninterested international audience is as rude as evangelistic assholes talking about God and never considering Agnosticism.
    
    (Btw, I'm an occasional long range marksmanship hobbyist myself. It's fun, but it gets boring rather fast).

      Sure, it can annoying when people are unable to engage in Socratic dialogue and proper discourse around controversial topics but I wouldn’t say that constitutes there banishment. Plenty of people are uninterested in all sorts of topics on here, that would be the purpose of the categories, to compartmentalize them to allow people who are interested in those categories to partake. It was sort of half hyperbole my last comment anyway, But it has always struck me strange when anyone anywhere tries to exclude ideas.

        I agree. Socratic dialog on free speech is fairly easy to find. But second amendment discussion gets hot button emotional so quickly that it's best to just avoid it. I've even suggested comparative sociological studies with Switzerland and Canada (the other gun countries). You would think people would be willing to consider testable hypotheses that the data could support or negate. But, I get nowhere with this suggestion.
        
        This bring us back to diplomacy, which is when people talk with reasonable hopes of making deals. I've done lots of international work, and believe me, obstinate jingoistic flag wavers with no critical thinking skills just don't understand it. Let them into the room and everyone else leaves.
