Which do you prefer? rock/ metal or pop/ rap

Think about if for a sec. Pop and rap may be listened for often nowadays than rock and metal but think about the talent, who writes the songs and the effort put into writing their songs.

Pop/ Rap 49
Rock/ Metal 127

I like rock, metal AND hip-hop/rap among many other genres. What do I prefer? Can't really say, it depends on my mood. Comparing genres just doesn't work for me.

I also take issue with your (the poster's) statement, hip-hop is a legitimate form of music. Much of it requires talent on various levels; beat making, song structure, digging out great samples, lyricism and production. In fact, some of the most talented, original and creative music comes from the roots of hip-hop.

I hate people that talk so much crap about hip hop and yet know nothing about it. Hip hop can be as deep as any rock or metal; I love both so I am sure of this. Even metal is stereotyped, not all metal is screaming and screeching. Bands like Led Zeppelin and Van Halen are a part of the metal canon.

Rock, Old School Rap like Beastie Boys, RATM, And a little Anthrax and other rappers at the 80's. And don't forget about the legendary METAL!!!! \m/\m/

  • Hmm, metal really never appealed to me, especially not the ones that scream that takes you about ten listens to actually understand the lyrics. I have a wide variety of music I listen to, some rap, some pop, and some rock.

I probably listen to more rock music than hip hop, easily more hip hop than pop, and easily more pop than metal. But regardless, the majority of songs I listen to required some talent to produce.

I also listen to many more genres of music than the ones you listed.

I don't really consider that to be "RapMetal," but rebellious rock.

i think it's RapRock/RapMetal but yea its rebellious rock also. RATM is a multiple category kind of band.

I suppose I'll have to reluctantly agree... While I pride myself on listening to mostly rock only, there are a few good rappers out there and Rage Against The Machine are simply AWESOME! There is no denial :)

    Pop: Love, school, partying
    Rap: sex, drugs, money
Rock: variety of topics usually revolving around emotions
Metal: ??? can't make out the screeching

I'd choose rock/metal over pop/rap but sometimes you just want to hear an upbeat mindless song so it's not like I hate any of them. Rock blows them all out of the water though with talent, lyrics, and effort. Pop and rap seems like they only write with the soul purpose of making money.

I thought of The Offspring when you said an upbeat mindless song. lol. Gotta love their music though and not all of it is mindless.

I love metal for the adrenaline! And they cover every area in their songs :)
Also, there are metal ballads around that most people like, regardless of taste in music. Trying checking out some of those!
