I hope no Irish are here, or they'll leap down your throat on account of the *Republic* of Ireland and *Northern* Ireland being very different countries :P
Shamefully, I've never been to either of the Irelands or Scotland. Scotland's all the way up there, so far away :( It's like our Canada, floating around up there, which is quite sweet really. And Ireland has a whole sea in the way, so getting there is difficult. I like Wales though, and I'll hopefully like going to university there next year. England is the one I've spent most of my time in, and the one I obviously have most loyalty to (despite intrinsically loving the others :P). It's nice here, really. I would recommend it to a friend.
But *all* of us have nice accents - even the Brummies :P
The British Isles include Ireland.
The UK is England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
And I love all the accents as well. Even Brummies, yeah.
If/when you go to University of Wales (are they still all called that?) it'd be just a short hop to The Republic.
I have been fortunate enough to visit both Rep and NI. Well worth a visit. All the cliches are true (well, the nice ones....)
Shamefully never visited Scotland properly, however.....
The University of Wales is really complicated at the moment. As of 2007 some of them left (e.g. Swansea, my second choice), and some of them are half-in-half-out (e.g. Cardiff, my first choice). Others, like Swansea Metropolitan are only just joining! I wish it was more simple :P And yes, I'll be a bit closer to the other side then :) I'm very close to the Welsh border already, so I won't be in for a big move.
Scotland I really have no excuse about. I'd love to go there some day and no doubt I will. It just hasn't been that day yet :(
What would you be studying?
Been to Scotland (-ish) three times. Arran (Isle of) which was beautiful, lush, green. Rained all day every day. For ten days. Another time just over the border on east coast, (near Berwick) but it it didn't really 'feel Scottish'. And the last time, recently, to Shetland, who do not consider themselves Scots at all. All the 'heritage Scotland' roadsigns are 'graffitied' over. And they don't even sound Scottish. Their heritage owes as much to Scandinavia as anything.
