Which country has the most interesting history?

Which of these following countries do you think has the most interesting history?
And i mean long history not just a couple hundred years or something, that's why i only include countries of the "old world".
I will give many options because i think many countries have a very long history.
This is also my first very own poll (I'm a bit new to this site) so dont be too harsh on me if it's a bad one! :D
It's mostly countries which i think have a rich history.
If you disagree and think i should have included other countries let me know in the "other" choice.

Technically, the only true native Americans are the Native Americans.

Too bad there aren't too many of them left :(

Well not really, if you were born here and live here, you're a native. My grandparents wre just barely born here, both my parents were born here in the US, and so was I, so how am I not a Native? I've never lived anywhere else but the US. That might've applied 500 years ago or so, but not anymore.

"if you were born here and live here, you're a native."

          That doesn't make any sense.

Have you actually read a dictionary? Or are you just desperately looking through dictionaries every time somebody doesn't agree with you?

So, if we're going into the linguistic area, then I say to you: Definitions of words in dictionaries are often different than how the words are used.

Are immigrants native if they are born in that country? Yes, officially. But would for example Japanese people think of my child as a native Japanese even if he/she was born in Japan? I don't think so. Even if according to your dictionary my child was a native, nobody would honestly think so. He/she would still be a native Finnish, not native Japanese.

Of course I could throw a dictionary at anyone who doesn't agree, but I doubt it would change anything.

"Native" is a bit of a confusing word, since according to archeologists we're immigrants to the majority of the world. It all depends on how far back you look.

The dictionary definition is broad enough to be interpreted in a number of ways, and a lot of that has to do with the common usage. In North America, when people say Native American, most mean people who did not migrate in recent history, recent being the past 1000 years (post-Columbian era), to North America, but were already settled when Europeans arrived. That's not to say you're not a native of America, but if you use the term Native American to virtually anybody in the US, it'll suggest something different to what you intended.

When scoula used the term native, he or she wasn't referring to Native Americans but citizens of America who were born and raised in the US. Like yourself. When Lynxikat said the only true native americans are the Native Americans he or she was wrong, because 'technically' doesn't exclude your definition of native. Technically you are a native of America. You're just not what most people would refer to as a native American.

So basically you're right to think of yourself as a native American, but if you want to avoid confusing people best to say "native OF America" to distinguish yourself from 'American Indians'.

I've said the exact thing myself (about there not being many left) its bogus! Its a damn shame. And I feel so bad for the ones that are still on reservations and stuff, but at least they still carry on with some of their old ways. Fuckin pilgrims!! And even worse....the puritans -_-

I can't really consider each of those countries separately, and I don't really want to. I'm much more interested in the world history in its entirety, the mutual relations and connections between different countries.

How did one country influence the history of another ones? If country A had made desicion 1, would country B have suffered consequences 2 or 3? And so on...

Interesting is subjective. I doubt anyone has ever studied all of those countries, so who's to know? Only recent history has any real interest to me; all the "kings and queens" stuff is really dreary in my opinion. In that sense, I guess none of those really interest me that much.

The recent history of the Middle East I think is really fascinating, because it is still going on right now.

I find the Arab-Israeli Wars very interesting, and the relationship between Israel and it's neighbours, especially Egypt. The reasons why the involvement of the US and Russia in the region have allowed it to spiral out of control is very interesting. We can learn a lot by studying it. Afghanistan is a very interesting place as well, although I know less about it.

I find it good that because this history is so important right now, we can relate it to real life, which is more than can be said for anything from more than 200 years ago.

How dare you not include Egypt??

What about Palestine, Syria, and Jordan?? All these levant countries have so much history.

Whoever created that poll has no knowledge about history.

South Africa also needs to be there, South Africa was used as a hub for English ships going to drop off English prisoners in Australia.

On the way back, the ships stopped by India to kidnap people, and sell them in South Africa, that's why Mahatma Ghandi is an Indian from South Africa.

I suggest someone with slightly better knowledge in history to create this poll.

Just not about certain parts of the world, and i said before that i forgot about Egypt.
And a country used as a hub for english ships isn't exactly what i would call very interesting.

Didn't add Australia because i don't know a lot about it. I only know aboriginals were the main population before the Dutch discovered it and England claimed it, which was only a few hundred years ago (i did say i would add countries with long history, which would be part of the "old world").
Is it wrong to think Australia does not have an interesting history compared to other countries?

so by "old world" you only mean when humans were around and not actually before people? thats not really "old world"... and how can you say that australia does not have an interesting history when you said you dont know anything about it? again, how about studying up your history first before putting up a post like this.

I know enough about it to not find it interesting enough, and as Joybird said, it's not like i can make a list of 100 countries. I should have added some other countries though like someone else said, like Egypt. (which i forgot)

People saying America - I just studied your history, you're not really old enough to top pretty much any of those on the list. ALthough the 1920s were pretty interesting. It makes me laugh that there's so much racism when almost all of you descend from Eastern Europe.

I kinda look at the different histories of various regions more like how much did one culture advance in 'x' amount of time. That's more interesting to me. The US advanced incredibly, it's a relatively young nation yet it's a major world power. Places in Africa are ancient as far as civilazation goes, but didn't, and haven't, advanced much. I enjoy the history of the Roman Empire, a lot of parallels can be drawn from that and the US, and it's interesting to use the history to predict the future of a super-power. I also enjoy figuring out where the next big super-poweer will be. My prediction is that South America is up and coming. Give it a decade or two, but I'd buy real estate there now while the getting's good.

You include Denmark but not Mexico (the Aztecs)? Netherlands but not Israel? And of course Egypt deserves its own option!

If you're talking about the 'old world' and "countries with a long history", you missed out quite a few!

But as you say, it's your first poll so I forgive you :) Personally I find modern history more compelling than ancient history, especially that of China and Afghanistan.

I would have added Egypt but not many more because the list would be too long :S
It's the opposite for me i find old history more interesting, not too old though more like 2000 BC to the 1500 AD.

That's cool. I suppose I just never feel passionate about stuff which happened so long ago. It doesn't resonate with my life now. Knowing how countries 100 years ago got to where they were now seems to be more relevant to me.

But yeah I think you got most of the big countries down. Credit for including Mongolia as well, people forget about the massive Mongolian empire.
