Where are you from?

So I am really curious about the constituency of IIN. I know that there have been a lot of these polls, so I tried to search it, but all the polls were shitty. So I decided to make my own. Please comment with your specific country, if you're not from the US or the UK. Also, if you were born and/or grew up in a certain country but then moved, please tell where you were born and where you live now.

Thanks!

:O I have made two polls about this, and they were both shitty?

    Muchos apologios.

Admittedly, I did get it wrong. I didn't realise that of the twenty countries of the world, six of them were the USA.

        • Ok, I'm sorry. I just thought you would say which country in Africa you're from. Africa is a very diverse place. Native South Africans, Indo-Europeans that moved to South-Africa during the colonial era, Kenyans, and Egyptians are very different peoples. So saying you're African is like me saying I'm European. That could mean that I'm from Moscow or Athens. So doesn't give much info, which is why it sounded fake. That was rude though, sorry.

        • USA.
          Atlanta, GA.

Sure the US is rich and freedom of speech and other liberties are great, maybe I take them for granted too much. But still, I feel very out of place here. Especially living in the south.

*Everyone* drives a car. When I say everyone, I mean everyONE. Imagine thousands of cars on the road, each occupied by ONE person. Whats more, a large portion of the cars, around 30-40%, are unnecessarily large. Everyday I see hundreds of people driving sports utility vehicles- 8 cylinder vehicles- around city suburbs. And most of the time it is just one or two people in a car. And, of course, nobody is willing to acknowledge climate change. The corporations would lose money.

Almost every day I see at least one or two Hummers on the road. These are MILITARY GRADE vehicles. They get 12 miles to the gallon AT BEST. In Atlanta traffic, its more like 6 MPG. Why do you need a military grade vehicle to sit in suburban traffic every day? Its disgustingly wasteful.

Public transportation is laughable. Alternative transportation like biking or walking? Yeah, right. When I commute to school, traffic is awful. It takes me almost an hour to drive less than 10 miles. And all of the traffic on the road

And don't get me started on the drug war. It literally throws away tax payer money and feeds it to violent drug dealers. It is a simple principle of market economics that you can't destroy demand simply by prohibiting a product. We learned that during 1930s alcohol prohibition, and yet we're making the same mistake. Furthermore, it impeaches upon personal freedom to tell people what they can and can't do with their own bodies.

Dont get me started on the political infrastructure. Washington is a puppet for american corporations.

The death penalty is stupid, the war on terror is stupid. Everyone is fat. Corporations pollute our environment and feed us disgusting food. I can go on ALL DAY.

Bottom line: today, american society is dominated by corporate interests, and not by the people.

Hey, I read about that. According to my coursebook on foreign politics, the US has devastated your country's economy by supporting some of the worst dictators in history. Papa Doc, among many others.

You'd think that a country that portrays itself so heroically in movies would have the dignity to correct its past mistakes. But hey, what do I know? I'm just a freedom-hating communist, like all Europeans.

I have no idea what you are talking about. Just like many governments globally, they take advantage of the people and the less educated. Ever since Haiti gained its independence from France, they left the country bare. They took all the resources from the land. I have to agree that we have not made it any better by who is elected into office and the greed by government officials but, the country was doomed from the beginning. Haiti is like a person trying to build a motor with no tools. The thing about Haitians though, is that many of us have pride and are not ashamed to be who we are. I, for one, know that Haiti will never make it out of the hole that it was birthed in.

We are way to easy on the criminals, the maximum penalty is 25 years, and we don`t really learn them to adapt back to the public, we just trow them out there

            Comment Hidden ( show )
              -
            • IMO 25 years is sensible. What is the point of taking away someone's freedom for 40-50 years, or for life, if you have to feed and house them? You might as well kill them.

I will admit, a program to assimilate convicted criminals back into society is critical. Otherwise there could be criminals that don't have any job skills and cant function within civil society, so they just go back to violent crime when they're released
