When to report abuse?

My friend has been coming to school with lost of dark bruises up and down his arms. Every time I ask him about it he gets very defensive and will try to change the subject or give me the typical " I fell down the stairs" crap thats not true. Everything points towards abuse but he wont admit it... I want to report it but what if im wrong or im reding into this too much. What should I do?

Some years back, I attended a summer camp program. One day, me and another friend got together and reported the abuse of another friend to a counsellor. This counsellor, in turn, told this to the heads of the camp who called CPS and made a report. They assured as that they wouldn't allow our friend's parents take her back home. I got into trouble for this when I told my parents but, it was worth it.

Your friend's bruises, if uncovered, should be arousing suspicion from his teachers. Report this to them or the school therapist. Good luck.

Give him info to report it or just call child services and request to remain anonymous.

If you believe abuse is occurring, you should report it. If you don't, and he ends up seriously injured, or dead, could you live with that? If it turns out you were wrong, that would be a good thing, not a bad thing.

Well if its a college the student must be 18 years old right? Try to talk the kid into staying with someone else. He doesn't have to live at home, but if he doesn't have any choice I would maybe talk to him seriously about it one on one in a private place. Maybe offer him to stay with you a while? If you have room for him.

        • I actually convinced him to stay for the weekend so hoping it goes well enough that he will stay for a while
