When meeting a friend of the opposite sex, do you prefer...

To give a kiss on the cheek or a hug?

Most of my female friends give their guy friends kisses on the cheek when they greet each other, I prefer a hug because it' seems so much more friendly. A kiss on the cheek seems a bit cold.

I grab their genitals and come within an inch of their face and whisper...

    "Flutterhigh fears no God."

Since I'm British, I don't do either. WAY to awkward. Just a "hello" is grand. Personally, I hardly ever touch with friends, male or female.

LOL @ "since I'm British"... All of my female friends instantly hug me when I see them... I never initiate it... Though if I haven't seen a friend for a long time, male or female, and they're going to be going away again for a while, I give them a hug. ^.^ I'm a guy btw... Truth be told I like hugs.. but they're not always needed in certain situations

Don't you feel that you're limiting your affection and care for others due to cultural factors?

Who cares what other people think, spread the love and show your affection for them. I love hugging my female friends because they mean that much to me, my guys friends just want a handshake which is fine.

I like the feeling of big velumptious boobies pressed up against my chest. Ha my gf is gonna be mad if she sees this :P

I wouldn't say that I'm limiting my affection at all. I get more from what me and my friends say as opposed to physical contact.

Hmm. Well, i give hugs to my friends who are girls, and the fisty pound shiz with the guys. Or a peace symbol. New people it's usually a handshake. Then only one person gets a bear hug + kiss. =3

  • Hugs are for special friends. Everyone else gets a kiss on the cheek.

I'd feel weird kissing or hugging any of my friends. I'm not the touchy-feely sort of person and I panic when a friend looks like they're about to hug me. I panic more so when they kiss my cheek. I panic because I don't know if I would over do it or if I would seem unfriendly. I don't understand the purpose of hugging and kissing unless the friendship is a intimate companionship sort of friendship.

Nope. 'cause you've to splay your hand wide. The 'tail' part.

You'll have to show me how this is done.

I don't know if any of you've heard of it, but I do the turkey instead. (Sounds .. wrong.)

It's a fist + palm punch. The one who initiates uses the fist. Did that to about a hundred peeps, 5 understood. We were the wacky gang back in high school. xD

the most appropriate and formal greeting would be to smell their butt

I prefer a kiss on the cheek, it's normal.
I think that a kiss on the cheek is kinda sweet...

    A hug.

But the only reason it's acceptible, is because our subculture is so physical.

I think I may be a bit freakish but my female friends always get both a hug and a kiss. And one friend usually approaches me at running pace and jumps into my arms, gets swung around a bit, and then gets a kiss. I like it. It makes both people feel special.

  • I hug people I know well (family, friends, sad people, etc.), especially if it's been a while since I've seen them or if I know they are a hugger too. There are different levels of hugging; I don't give everyone a bear-hug, some people only get a one-armed-hug.

    I don't do the cheek-kissing, ever.

I shake hands with people I'm meeting for the first time.

  • haha so funny flutterhigh, i am quiet and reserved no back slaps just an ordinary hello and a smile

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • Well...I give hugs to only certain male friends. If I'm not that close to you yet then a lovely wave and smile is what you can expect.

Are you not from the US? Either way, I don't really care. We had these French exchange students and they kissed as a greeting. It's not the norm to do that here, so it will probably be a bit awkward to change things.
    Good friends- hugs
    Best friends- tight hugs
Acquaintances- nod, greet "hello", shake hands

Usually hug but if I don't know them very well, it's a handshake.

I live in the U.S.A., so friends typically do not kiss on the cheek, but rather hug. It sounds like it would be a nice change-up actually.

Neither? It's very uncomfortable for me. VERY. I have a couple friends, both male and female, who always want to hug and (sometimes) kiss hello and it really bothers me.

Your female friends might be trying to get in and out as quick as possible and not have too much physical contact by giving a quick peck on the cheek. Take the hint.

They told me I'm too tall to kiss on the cheek. They hug my stomach and I end up hugging their head and I'm serious.
