When does a gay bar become just a bar?

There's a Gay Bar in my town. Straight people have caught on that women feel safer at gay venues and many straight women will go with their gay friends. So many straight males have begun to attend in order to pick up women. With all these straight male and female numbers, the percentage of gay people in the bar is dropping rapidly. The venue advertises itself as a gay bar, but I was contemplating the other day how long it can say so, can it still call itself one if more than 50 percent of it's clientele are straight? Some nights I expect the figure is closer to 80. Isn't it false advertising for gay people who go there thinking they will be in a gay environment but find it largely populated by straight people?

    If it has a history of being a gay bar but now calls itself a straight bar then I think it's still a gay bar but in denial.

    Although if it has a history of servicing gay people but now services gay and straight people then maybe its a bi-bar.

    I think it just depends on what the owners want to describe it.

    The hangout spot I always hangout at is a gay owned bar, but they do not consider themselves to be a gay bar, although a lot of the staff and customers are gay or bi.

    The majority of the customers are not gay and it is advertised as just being a karaoke bar and anyone who didn't know the people there would unlikely know that it is a place with a large gay population.

    So it's only a gay bar if it is advertised as a gay bar. Otherwise it is just a bar with gay people, which is pretty much any bar.
