I live in the city so having a car at 20-something isn't a must but it's a definite plus.
Having been in this situation, I think it's quite important. I used to live 100km (60 miles) from my ex, and she didn't drive. It was fine at first, but got very annoying, having to drive for an hour to see her all the time. It was one of the reasons we fell apart
