Whats your thoughts on one sided conversations with others

my significant other is seemingly uninterested in what I have to say and usually derails any kind of conversations we have together with lacking answers. I believe I try enough to be engaging and interesting to create authentic and meaningful connecting conversations with her but nothing seems to stick. what do you guys and gals think of a situation like this. Id also love to hear your situations like this.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

There was this girl I knew in high school who was like that. I was enamored with her for such a long time before I finally broke things off after realizing how unhappy she was making me. We sort of reacquainted in college after running into each other randomly, and we met up in the cafeteria to catch up. After listening to her incessantly blather to me for about an hour I realized that nothing had changed. She didn't care about anything that was going on in my life, and she never had. She was so self-centered and that realization just reaffirmed that my decision to stop contact was the right thing for me to do.

It still makes me sad sometimes, even though it shouldn't. A small part of me will always think that we could've been good together.

    • I'm glad you overcame that. I can relate to your story a bit unfortunately but thank you for sharing it.

Eventually you will grow old and conversations will be all you have left.

Being able to have a good, satisfying conversation is a priority in relationships.

Perhaps she just doesn't have an interest in the topics you're talking about or she doesn't have or want to voice her opinion.

Speaking to her about this will give you a much better understanding rather than asking us.

Finding good conversation is not easy.
Worse today, with all the cell phones, 24 hour t.v. most places you go.
People feel they need to be entertained, constantly.

What topics do you talk about?
My boyfriend drifts when I talk about certain things. He's not interested in anything 'out there' or world problems etc. I got sick of talking to myself so decided to stop and let him start the conversations. If their conversations are so boring that you want to scream, it's probably time to cut your losses. Communication is the most important thing in any relationship.

tell her your concerns, and if she doesn't listen to that either, move on, unless you are really desperate

    • I was hoping to not have to acknowledge it with her because it just seems odd.
