What would you think about a couple with a 40 year age difference?

My boyfriend and I have a 40 year age difference. He’s in his sixties and I’m in my twenties. We have a great relationship and have been together about a year (and it’s been 24/7 because we work/travel together too). What would you think if you saw us walking hand and hand down a street?

Blasphemy!!! 6
Whatever works, as long as they're happy!!! 30
It's unnatural and I want no association with them... 9

I'd probably think you were an unusually attached father and daughter. But hey, whatever works for you is fine :)

As long as both are consenting adults. I really wouldn't give a fuck.
I am 22 and am interested in a man 30 years older than me, he has a very strong personality and he is just too good looking, it's hard to take your eyes off of him, if we were walking hand in hand in public, I wouldn't be ashamed or think twice about what people may or may not be thinking.
    Enjoy your relationship =)

What if there is such as thing as reincarnation and the two of you had been lovers in a past life? He had gone off to WWII or something and died, you lived out the last 40 years of your life and then died... it would explain the 40 year age difference! Haha... that'd be crazy...

Anyway, who gives a damn? You, walking down the street holding the hand of the man you love and he's holding the hand of the woman he loves... it's not hurting anyone else. People who think it's wrong to see this need to get a grip on life. Life is too short for that kind of shit!

Honestly, I'd be a bit baffled and stunned from the sight since it's not really normal to see, but hey, whatever floats your boat. c:

My first thought would be that you are after his money then I would remember that I have once dated a man who was twice my age and I was kind of attached to him and I would look at you in another way.

    • :) I think a lot of people get that idea. Sometimes I tease him about it, like if I had to fall in love with an old guy - couldn't he at least be rich?! Haha. So, he's not. He's just my best friend... and lover. :)

I know what you mean. When I was with this older guy Ifelt so much protected. He made me get over some issues of my past which were still following me.

My boss is in his 60's and has been dating women in their 20's. We give him shit about it all the time. Mostly because it's fun to tease him. He is coming out of a a bad relationship and I think it's his way of getting back at the ex by dating young beautiful women. Not that your boyfriend is doing this, that's just what came to mind when I read this.

It's fine now but sooner or later he will lose interest in sex and won't need you anymore. My husband is 33 years older than me and it was great for the first 16 years . Now I'm trapped in a marriage with no sex, no joy, no love, just jealousy and regret on my part that I didn't listen to all the people who told me not to be in the relationship from the start. Plus, both sides of our families ostracized us and most people avoid us and believe we are immoral and messed up. It's lonely. Really. Get out while you can before you develop socialization issues and/or worse psychological problems.

Seriously, when I'm 60 I'm gonna have... a 60 year old wife. He remembers the 1950s.. cause he lived through it. His skin must be leathery.

    • I think he really wanted to grow old with a wife. It's one of the sad points of our relationship. It's not like we're going to get to spend our lives together... just however he long he has left... which who ever knows? Or perhaps I'll die young, but (again) who the hell knows.
