What would you in this situation?

Imagine you are driving home at night and you hit a person with your car. You get out and check and you are certain they are dead. Nobody saw what happened. Do you call 911? Do you leave? What would you do? Personally I would leave because reporting myself wouldn't change the fact that they are dead and would only make the situation worse. I would call 911 if they lived though.

Call 911 46

    I would call 911.

My conscious would kill me otherwise....

If I was sure it was not my fault, I'd call the emergency services and have faith in the system that I wouldn't be wrongly prosecuted.

My reasoning is that they can't prosecute me without evidence I was driving dangerously, because hitting someone with a car isn't a crime if you were driving safely. I think that's true, anyway, and there can't be evidence of me driving dangerously if I wasn't :P

I don't think I'd call 911 out of conscience, but I would call.
Chances are, with forensics being what they are today, you would eventually be caught anyway and then things would go pretty hard on you.
One of the most important things about being a human being is taking responsibility for your actions. Society today is constantly trying to absolve people of their responsibility for everything; from blaming the parents of mass murderers to trying to rehabilitate children who kill other children without any remorse. It's not some lazy shit kid's fault he's failing all his classes; it's ADD or some other alphabet problem. It's not the returned vet's fault he killed his whole family, the poor fellow had "gulf war syndrome". Every single human being has problems. Vile abusive parents, overprotective smothering parents, abusive siblings, abusive priests or extended family, mean bosses, abusive spouses; the list goes on and on. But for every nut job that goes on a killing spree there are thousands who cope and do the best they can, taking responsibility for their own actions.
It is the absence of responsibility that is probably one of the major contributors to the breakdown of our society, today.

  • If they were dead and I was alone I would probably drive away lol. Why willingly throw myself into jail, whats ratting on myself going to do to fix the situation?

If it's Gerard Way I take the body and keep it in my freezer ...then the fun begins.

  • I'd call 911, it is my fault the guy was hit. He probably has a family that cares about him, and they'd want to know who took their loved one's life, it wouldn't be fair to them if they didn't know who did it.

Yeah call 911 anonymously (if that's possible..? Idk never called 911 before) and say there is a dead body in the road... they should really clean that up... cause I almost ran over it..! <_< '

  • I would call 911 (112 here in holland XD) and tell them I saw a teribble accident but that i must stay anonymous and then drive away fast.

Leaving the person there is disrespectful to them and their family and friends. Always call 911. Also, unless you were drunk (in which case you are an ass), it was probably an accident, and you wont be convicted.

Make the situation worse? Maybe for you, but what about the family of the dead person? Not only did you kill the person, you offer them no real answers as to what happened. You're a selfish little cunt, aren't you? That kind of behavior us sure to bite you in the ass.

    • I really don't understand why you are being so condescending about this topic. I never said the person was hit purposely.

I thought of this topic because this happened in my town this month and everyone was outraged the driver took off. My thoughts is catching him is not going to bring back the victim. If they didn't do it purposely they are likely to not repeat the offence. It really would make no difference if they are caught or not. The only person it effects is the driver.

        "Personally I would leave"

That kind of thinking is very selfish to me. So be it if you don't care enough about the other people involved to do the right thing. I guess that isn't the right thing to you because it would, in fact, make life a bit more difficult to get wrapped up in vehicular manslaughter. It isn't about bringing the victim back. It's about respect for your fellow human. How would you feel if someone thought it was okay to leave you for dead on the highway just because there were no witnesses? to think it would only effect the driver is rather short sited. Maybe they had a dog at home.

        • Honestly I don't see why it would be the right thing to turn myself in. If someone hit me and left and I was dead I really wouldn't blame them if they took off because it doesn't make any difference. It's not going to bring the victim back. Now if the victim was still alive then of course they should call 911 because that is a time sensitive emergency.

That reminds me my friend told me his friends mom was driving once at night and it was raining, she hit something very hard, figured it was an animal and kept going, when she got home she found pieces of blood-stained clothing fabric stuck to the bottom of her car she just threw them out and never told the cops or anything :s

    • That's not a good idea if you do it from your phone. Maybe you could use the dead bodies phone.
