What would you have done?

A few years ago, I had to get a tooth pulled. At that time, I was religious. Before they started the procedure, they gathered around me and prayed. I thought of it as a nice thing and didn't mind. I'm an Atheist now, and if I was one at that time, I would of got up, walked away, and looked for another dentist.

Ehh, I'd like to have my dentist at ease before they do a root canal on my mouth. If praying is the thing that does it, I'd be cool with it.

I would have been really worried, why the hell would they be praying.

    I would think it's a little odd, but I wouldn't mind.

  • That's a very strange thing for the dentist to do. I wouldn't have been bothered by it but I would have thought I have a really weird dentist.

If your dentists prays does your minister do root canal?
I'd be afraid the dentist didn't trust his own skills and needed Divine intervention.

I would of just left. Clearly this dude or dudette is not confident in his or her abilities as a dentist.

My ex-dentist was definitely a Christian and so was her practice. There were religious posters all over the ceiling. They never prayed around me.

I used to be an atheist. I'm not now, but I'm not a Christian either. I try to be tolerant and open-minded about things like religion but, if I had a doctor do that to me I would leave. That or, I would finish the appointment and never come back. I would find another doctor. I think this really is a way to alienate your clientele. I find it a little concerning of how they may react/treat a patient who doesn't share their religion.

They were hoping that all would go well. But that just makes me not want to go back there. Perhaps he wasn't really trained enough in pulling teeth. Before I had my tooth pulled, they had cleaned my teeth and simple stuff like that, but never prayed before it. It was only when I had that one tooth pulled.

It would make me even more nervous..
I had to have two teeth pulled when I was little, they didn't knock me out properly.. and I woke up half way through I did not like that.

I dunno. They're a pretty religious place. The building is right beside a church. Not only that, but when I was having my tooth pulled, there was a picture of Jesus right in front of the chair I was in. I haven't been there since, of course. Only because there was no need to go back. I don't remember them asking for my religion on the paperwork, although they could have.
