What would you do in this situation?

Let's say if you were in this situation:
You have spent months saving up money to buy a new bike. When you found out you now have enough, you set off to buy the bike you've always wanted. While walking down the street, finding the shop, a kid runs past you and steals your money you were holding for the bike. You chase him, but then you see his deathly ill mother who seems to have but only some time to live if not cured. The kid says that he needs money to buy medicine for his mother as they are too poor. What would you do?

Take the money and buy the bike - not my fault they're dying! 10

    I would definitely not be as eager to help him after he tried to steal it, but I would still have to do SOMETHING. His mother's dying, and I have the ability to help him. I would probably try to find out more about his mother's illness, and then decide whether to give him the money/how much to give him.

    Ha, I think I once saw this question on a Harry Potter Sorting Hat quiz.

    It depends on the situation. First, I would look more in-depth about the mother's illness. If it's terminal, then I would only give the money needed to make her end days comfortable. If she needs to be treated at a hospital, then I might give the boy some money and encourage him to start a fundraiser. If the mother is just ill, then I'll take back the money and tell the boy that I would have given it to him if he didn't steal it.

    It also depends on my life situation at that time. I can't help somebody else if I'm struggling. Then again, I don't really need a bike so I might make the kid owe me.
