What would you do if you found this out about a friend?

Pretend that you found out that someone close to you, someone you have a great deal of respect for because of their intelligence and life-views, is a major pothead. You never suspected it of them because everything about them is so ordinary. But now you know that they smoke it daily.

Would you're opinion of them change?

Yes, I'd stop being friends with them. Drugs are for losers, mkay. 23
Yes, I'd respect them even more. That stuffs awesome! 24
Weed is like coffee, it's not bad like they tell you it is in school. 52
I'd feel the same about them as a friend. 94
Other. 22

I personally think weed is getting too popular. Sure, it's not as harmful as you learn in school, but it's also not as harmless as you learn on the internet.

Now, I'm not going to belittle people for smoking weed, I like stoners better than drunks, but, you know... do it in moderation. Make sure you're not getting addicted by going cold turkey once in a while.

Moderation is always the key. And even though addiction to weed does not have a strong physical basis, it has a psychological basis. I don't fault marijuanna for that, I fault the mentality and reasoning behind the usage as well as the user themselves. I'm on a cold turkey kick right now.

I wouldn't be okay with illegal activity around me, but what they do on their own time is their business. I wouldn't look at them differently for it.

Problems like this can occur in societies where governments have made Cannabis illegal, usually because of poor knowledge and/or misguided ideas. On the other hand, recreatiomal users often act irresponsibly. Understanding is key. What I would do is to learn about it, and open a public discussion into decriminalization and regulation of Cannabis. Making it illegal does not make it go away and causes more problems than it solves.

My opinion of them would be exactly the same. I used to be a major pot head in high school and college! I had to quit for my job, as I am a business professional, but I still partake every once in a while. Once a month or so. If the guy smokes a little green to make himself feel better, who cares? Is that going to define him as a person? NO!

What would you do if you found out that you were friends with Neuro ;)

Since it isn't creating any problems for them, I'd be fine with it.

I don't care about weed. I don't smoke it often, I don't think people who do are cooler or more intelligent than people who I don't because of it, I don't think it 'opens the mind' and I think the whole world of pot-head merchandise is a bit sad really.

But a friend smoking it and my occasionally partaking in it wouldn't be an issue with me.

Agreed. I do not care much for the pot merchandise to begin with. I don't have much reasoning behind it, but pot is something that you do in private for the time being. The merchandising, to the general public, turns it into something dirtier than what it is, I am convinced.

Like really? You're proud to smoke pot? I eat 3 Musketeers bars. I'm so special, too. No wonder so many people use stoner and loser synonymously.

Can't stand weed. It's ruining my brother and hurting my family (well his habit is anyway). However, if I didn't notice before then it isn't hurting our friendship. I'd have less respect for them but we'd still be friends. As long as they don't smoke around me or smell of it (the scent makes me so sick). I have friends who smoke. Wouldn't drop them.

A friend in need is a friend indeed, a friend with weed is better.

I'm allergic to it personally and the smell gives me migraines but who am I to judge anyone I use meth either once a week or once a fortnight I'm a good and caring partner, a good Mum and Step Mum, a great friend. The bills get paid and there is always food in the house so each to their own I think, who has the right to be so judgemental especially over people you have considered as friends for a long time?

I like stoners theyre often inciteful and there is a great bond made with them through the ceremony. I just have trouble talking to people i dont know once im baked.

If some one is a dickhead before theyre stoned, you cant blame weed for that, in fact it probably will make them less of a dickhead.

Weed is like coffee? In what universe? It is the opposite. I can see comparing weed and booze, but not coffee.

If my friend became a total pothead, I'll be honest, my opinion will probably change negatively towards them. I'm not sure if I would drop them cold though, 'cause I've never been in a situation like that.

I'd tell them how I feel, and show my concern if it bothered me that much. If they can't be understanding of my concern, I would try to come to terms with the fact that it was their own choice/decision. I wouldn't harp on it, and let them be. But if with time it seems like pot has taken over their lives and they appear to be taking a downhill spiral taking the friendship along with them, I'd maybe try to talk with them about it again, or talk with them about getting help. If they don't listen, unfortunately there isn't much you can do about that. Whether they want to go that route or not. At the end of the day, its their choice.

And people also change, so its your choice whether you'd wanna stick around to befriend the 'new them' or not. If you can't deal with the new them, then understand that the person they once were no longer is, and either learn to deal with that, or move on and leave the friendship behind hoping that maybe one day they'll come back around.

I'd wanna smoke with them and hear some of their opinions on the big issues. Weed does have the power to open the mind. Helped me realize I believe in Atheism over Christianity, it also helps me sort out other issues. I can just, well, think better and more efficiently. No distractions, just pure reflecting. It's nice.

It wouldn't bother me that they smoked, but my feelings might change on the basis of them having kept a big part of their life secret.
