What the story of the apple tree and temptation, represents?

Does it really refer to the high dopamine effect of sexual desire? ..and is it the most incredible power on earth? (apple, peach, banana, whatever)

Fun fact: at no point in the book of Genesis does the text specify it was an apple tree

Best guess is it was a pomegranate.

If you need a fruit with an upside and a downside it's the pomegranate. Upside, it tastes good. Downside, it's a bastard to crack open and eat.

If you are referring to the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, you are mistaken. The original sin has nothing to do with lust. The original sin was the sin of pride. Eve wanted to be like God, and Adam would rather disappoint God than his wife.

The reason it is relayed to us in the Bible: because it is true.

      Smart man.

That being said I take the entirity of genesis (and most of the bible) to be allegorical.

It you interpret it that way, you interpret it wrongly, according to the Pope and the Pontifical Biblical Commission.

Of course, I doubt that's going to sway you.

Would you say that all popes went to heaven? I've seen the track record and they dont exactly have the authority to pardon oneself like a president.

I only say that because if a pope can be corrupt who the heck knows what's been done to the bible for the sake of political convenience. Taking it as an allegory is true justice for the bible rather than completely trusting/disregarding it.

Never said I was right. I like to think I have a more personal relationship with God. Rather speak one on one rather through a middleman.

Either way how you interpret it. The current pope already said even atheists can go to heaven. As an agnostic I have optimistic chances in that regard.

If we were certain that all the Popes have gone to heaven, then all Popes would be Saints, but that is certainly not the case, so it is certainly possible that some Popes have not gone to heaven.

The Pope and his Magisterium cannot teach error to the public. If he did, the gates of Hell would have prevailed against the Church.

You know, Protestants say that they have "a more personal relationship with God". In reality, that means nothing, and is a puerile justification at best. Catholics do speak with God directly, through prayer.

"The current pope already said even atheists can go to heaven." This should be an obvious response to this quote, at least coming from me: What Pope?

Hi Clunk, I think the Christian religion needs strict rules to guide Christians, a literal interpretation of the Bible, and that it would have to be reformed, and Christians should be regulated to be free from sin, it's the only way to heaven.

The current pope, Francis. Or should I say Jorge Mario Bergoglio. Who was chosen (or ascended in your case) in 2013.

As for the gates of hell? One cannot be certain if it happened before our time or it's a recent change or even if it is still yet to come. As armageddon hasnt started I'm going to say no. But that doesnt absolve the church in cases of high corruption of their teachings decades or centuries ago at the whims of petty political squabbles that were common place during the dark ages. Such as paying your way through absolution of sins.

I do not ask for people to pray for me as I simply ask. I shorten the gap between the subject and god by simply talking.

As for the magisterium to be without fault I cannot fathom a more wrong statement on the nature of mankind. Something god was abundantly aware of since the garden. If one cannot remove the primordial sin will a cathedral with thousands of candles and incense ever be enough to quell the huberous of man? Especially if they are in positions of such high power?

That is why I fundamentally dislike the idea of the catholic church. Its run by humans. Until we have an angel to run the show call me a skeptic.

I'll throw a rug out before it rains to see if it is not soaked. As it's the nature of man to always question and prod. The authority of man should always be questioned. Until we have a better alternative, objective morality and two millennia+ old scripture is all we have.

The gravity of the freedom and responsibility to make and reap the consequences of personal choice.

"This life's dim windows to the soul,
Distort the heavens from pole to pole,
And leads you to belive a lie,
When you see with, not thro', the eye."-William Blake

Yes it's normal, there are morals because of such a temptation, they ate the fruit and that was the first sin, because of their disobedience, therefore it's up to Christians to not sin, not fall in temptation, I know it's a literal thing, in eating herbs, e.g. drugs a snake talked to them then they put their clothes on, and this was in the Ice Age a long time ago.

It is a metaphor for puberty and sexual awakening. Before the temptation we were like innocent children without a care in the world. After we partook of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, we became ashamed of our nakedness and knew the meaning of sin. Just as we do when we learn about sex.

Down at the nudist resort, body acceptance reigns supreme. Are you saying we don’t know the difference between a good fuck and an evil fuck?

No man, you missed the point. The whole Garden of Eden story is a metaphor for our sexual awakening at puberty and that we felt no shame in being naked as children but as adults we do. Except for nudists.
