What should i do about my ex girlfirend?

My ex girlfriend and I have been avoiding each other for seven months since we broke up, and at prom the strangest thing happened. At prom i had received at tip off from her best friend (she tells her everything) to ask her to dance the next slow dance with her. When the time comes i ask and she excepts which i was really surprised at, it was the last dance of the evening to top it all off. Now we are slowly getting back to being friends, and a mutual friend of ours keeps smiling every time she see's us together like she did when we were dating. The part that really makes me curious is that the mutual friend knows something about my ex and refuses to tell me no matter what, all they'll tell me is that it's about me, I personally want her back but I'm pretty sure that wouldn't happen. What should i do?

Sorry for the long post, please give any additional ideas and votes with your comments.

Really, that mutual friend option is the best there. Confront her about the feelings your (ex)girl may have for you.

You should not blatantly ask for her back, but aiming in that direction may be the most reasonable.

I'd guess she had some random fling during those 7 month and realized you're more to her liking than she actually thought.

Like, serious, your friend "knows" something about your ex that is about "you".
And suggested you ask her for a slow dance(oh wonder, she accepted).
And looks at you 2 with the happy smile of a successful matchmaker.

You need someone to hit you with a sign? Men :P

On an aside: Why did you break up in the first place and on who's initiative?

My advice would be to wean off her and go for someone else.. If she wanted you she'd say it.. There's no sign language for it :-)

Well i think the first thing to consider is how your relationship ended and how it was? Was it good? Did it end on a good note? If you guys broke up because of a constant problem you were having, trust me, that problem isnt gonna go away the second time around and youre just putting yourself through round 2 of hell. So avoid and disappear. If you broke up for some other reason, then you can consider starting with the friends option and see what happens. Clearly, she likes you. But as a girl i know we like the chase somewhat, so if you act more "cool" towards her at first shes gonna want you more and it will boost your chances. Also, playing it safe like that will give you time to figure out if there are any other alterior intentions for her acting this way and could save you some pride if she just wants to play a cruel joke or something. Itll also give you time to figure out what this "secret" could be before making a commitment again, what if its something youre not going to like? Good luck :)

If she broke it off, she played you, and you should forget her.

If you broke it off and she wants you back, well that is up to you.

From your story, it sounds like your ex is still in love with you, buy doesn't want to admit it and the mutual friend knows this and is trying to get you guys back together, but won't tell you what your ex won't tell you herself.
