What should i change to make myself more attractive?

Alright. Here's the thing. I'm not attractive. I'm not HIDEOUS, mind. I look decent if I'm caught at the right angle on a good hair day, but otherwise I'm pretty bad. I'm very scrawny. Quite short. I have long hair that gets greasy easily, though I'm getting an inch or two cut off soon so maybe I'll feel better after that. I've got a VERY long thin face with a round chin (a sharper chin would be nice, but no, life hates me). Quite bad skin, not much acne anymore but full of blackheads from my teenage years that wont go away (I've tried everything I know of). Small eyes and mouth but a pretty large nose. HUGE eye bags, I been jokingly called a heroin addict by several different people over my life, they're huge and sort of genetic. Bad posture that I'm trying to improve. Despite all that I don't really hate my scrawny body since I have nice bone structure, but I HATE my face. Basically I look like a very dirty stoner/nerd even though I've never touched drugs in my life and I shower every second day AT LEAST. I'm learning to dress better too.
Also I wear clothes like loose-fitting jeans, thin shirts and a peacoat but for some reason this getup seems to make me look shorter than I should.
I really wish I could attach a photo and get some proper constructive comments but I'm way too nervous of being seen on the internet doing this by someone I know!
What do you think is the most important feature to work on if I want to improve my looks and confidence? I'm mostly posting this for the comments though so let's have tea and talk! :D

Clear out my skin (please tell me how) 13
Work out a bit (I'm starting but I'm lazy and might not get much done) 10
Change of wardrobe (but how?) 6
Imrpove posture (I'm working on it!) 1
Try a new hair length (Nothing below two inches for me though!) 6
Get rid of the eye bags (if that's even possible) 5
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

if you have a long, thin face, you shouldn't cut your hair too short. try shoulder length. also, are you male or female? if you're female (or goth), i could give you some makeup tips.

as far as the blackheads, try steaming your face (if you can't afford the face steamer, you can always just boil some water, pour it into a large bowl, put it on the table, hold your face over it (not so close that it burns your skin, but close enough to feel the steam), and then drape a towel over your head. try to do that for 10 minutes - and make sure you leave a little gap in the towel for air to get in). immediately after steaming, take a very warm washcloth, and try to squeeze the blackheads out. you can also try exfoliating your skin with a scrub (i honestly like freeman's plum and pumice foot scrub better than facial scrubs for when my skin gets REALLY bad).

the bags may be genetic, but you can try putting slices of cucumbers on your eyes (while laying down), or chamomile tea bags (yes, insert scrotum joke here) dipped in cold water. the chamomile works better. try leaving them on your eyelids for 10 to 20 minutes.

also try a clarifying shampoo for your hair. additionally, hair color can make a HUGE difference. even if it's not something drastic, just adding a little highlight or touch of color that might be more complimentary to your skin tone can help loads.

if you want, you can send me a pic, i'm pretty nice, and won't be a jerk or anything, but will give you some constructive criticism. i've given tons of my friends (both male and female) makeovers that they've stuck with because they looked so much better (yes, i know, i'm modest).

oh, one note about the tea bags... do try to squeeze the excess water out before applying to your eyelids. you don't really want a lot of tea getting in your eye. it's not really bad for you, but i'm sure it can't be pleasant feeling.

Hm! Thanks! I'll try the steaming thing tonight! I use facial creams daily and it's doing nothing for me. I usually try squeezing a few out after I have a hot shower but it's not getting me anywhere.
And I'm male by the way. My hair is currently shoulder length you see, and I look HORRIBLE with short hair so I know my boundaries. I still want to cut it though since when my hair gets to this length it starts to pull down on itself and flatten around the shape of my face. When I have it a bit shorter it's very springy and wavy and I think it looks alot better.
Regarding the eye bags I think they annoy me least out of what I listed but I would like to reduce them a bit.
I might try sending a pic to someone eventually. Might... I dunno if my camera works currently. :\

oh, and what do you use to wash your face? please don't use regular soap. i really like the alba face wash (the same line that i linked to in my other post), but it depends on your skin type. if you have dry, sensitive, or combination skin (dry in spots, oily in others), that's a good one. if your skin is oily all over, a decent cheap face wash is clearasil daily clear http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/clearasil-daily-clear-oil-free-face-wash/ID=prod4379-product
that one can be a bit drying, and is not really appropriate for sensitive skin (i only use it in the summer, and only once a week or so).

you can also look into getting a GENTLE face scrubber. i found these little microfiber ones i like. you can use the rough side for the areas with dead skin, and the soft side for the more sensitive areas. i picked up a pack of 3 at the dollar store, but they're generally not that expensive anyway, and are usually machine washable.

you also want to look at your diet, and make sure you're drinking enough water. sugar, preservatives, and oily foods can cause you to break out more, as can being dehydrated. make sure to drink LOTS of water (at LEAST 8 glasses a day).

Oh man this is so complicated O.o
The facial cream I use is Yes To Carrots Daily Cream Facial Cleanser (Carrots. Wierd.). I started using it because it's what my Mom buys so she gave me some when I was home from college. It doesn't seem to do anything for my blackheads but it's drastically improved my dry skin problems. My skin is also somewhat less oily now too. I used to have far more dead skin around my forhead but it's much better now. I never wash my wash with regular soap.
Never thought of going to a spa, but I have thought of seeing a dermatologist. They'd probably try to recommend me some drugs though and I'd perfer not to resort to that.
When it comes to washing my hair I usually use whatever is at hand but I do have this shampoo preference that I always use if it's at hand. It's quite cheap too so that's handy! Makes my hair extra soft after a shower. :3
As for diet. I bring a bottle of water to work with me whenever I can. But I am notorious for forgetting to hydrate and I've had my mother and a previous girlfriend force me to drink some water cause I literally forget to drink AT ALL when I'm busy or gone out. I dont have the best diet in the world, I eat food frequently but in very small portions and have a huge tendancy to snack on candy for comfort food. Bad habit. I do the same with fruit aswell though. Anything sweet that I like is basically comfort food to me and I'll eat a lot of it. Outside of that though I'm a very picky eater.

and sorry for all the complicated tips. i'm just going by what has worked for me and some of my friends. there are lots of different things you can try, but the easiest ones would be steaming your face, cutting your hair and maybe adding a bit of product, drink more water, and maybe try adding some smoothies (made at home with raw nuts or avocado, blueberries, whatever other fruits you like, and maybe a bit of tofu or whey powder for added protein), or maybe just a jamba juice (if you have those near you) with an added antioxidant power boost.

ok. sounds like you're far better at taking care of yourself than most guys. the carrot face wash is probably pretty good - just try adding in a scrub of some sort every once in a while. a face wash will generally NOT clear up your blackheads (unless it's one of those really drying salicylic acid ones, and then, only partially.)

honestly, dermatologists can be good, but expensive - and it's kind of hit or miss. if you don't have sever acne or other skin problems, i don't see the need for one. most spas i know of offer good facials with pore cleansing (they're all pretty much the same for basic stuff). call around and ask.

i had another idea for your hair - volumizing products. if you're not opposed to product, they have a huge range of things. i've heard the volumizing powder works pretty well and doesn't make your hair as sticky as other product, but i've never used it personally (i have the opposite hair problem - dry, poofy hair).

the snacking constantly is actually a good thing (as long as it's healthful foods.) fruit is really good for you. blueberries are great for your skin. if you like fish at all, broiled salmon (or my personal favorite, steelhead trout) is also really great for skin. if you don't like fish, try flax seed oil or meal. you need to keep it refrigerated (in the case of the oil) and frozen (in the case of the meal) to keep the potency. the meal is ok - kind of has a nutty flavor (i sprinkle it over oatmeal or cereal). you can just down a spoonful of the oil if you don't like the meal.

if you're vegan or vegetarian, look into getting a consultation done with a nutritionist, and possibly some bloodwork done. from the description of your skin problems, it sounds like you might actually have low iron (it's less common in males, but can still happen.) also, try adding some raw nuts and avocado to your diet (if you like them at all). they're high in good fats and vitamin e, and should improve your skin as well.

oh, the facial creams can actually ADD to the blackhead problem (depending on which type). if it is a moisturizer, make sure it is non-comedogenic (doesn't clog pores - it should say right on the package).

also, i forgot to mention about toner - use one. i found one i really like that DOESN'T overdry/irritate my skin. it's this one:
          http://reviews.vitacost.com/4595/25508/alba-natural-even-advanced-sea-kelp-facial-toner-6-fl-oz-reviews/reviews.htm

using overdrying/irritating products can actually cause your skin to produce MORE oil, and make acne (including blackheads) worse. try to stay away from the acne creams, or if you have to use them, then go for a good moisturizer as well, and try to only apply to the affected areas.

also, you can try using a shampoo to enhance curls on your hair, but yes... cutting it a bit shorter might be a good idea. since you're a guy, you could probably go for chin-length. longer faces don't look bad on guys imo.

if you have the money, i'd really recommend going to a spa for a facial (these people are pros at cleaning out blackheads and clogged pores). you shouldn't have to go that often. after the first time, it should be fairly easy to maintain yourself. google ones near you that offers this service. DON'T go in for chemical peels or any sort of laser or microdermabrasion (sp?) though unless they're a dermatology clinic (and look at reviews on an independent website (yelp or something similar) for the spa you choose online). and no, you don't have to buy their products, no matter what they claim they will do. if you get a sample of one, and it seems to work for you, that's fine, but generally they're overpriced, and not that effective.

you were born the way you were born and you should be happy in your own skin and not try to change who you are

What's this have to do with how she was borne looking, nearly everything about her appearance has already changed since then.

If it is not genetically part of you, than you were not borne with it, and it is not a part of you. Blackheads aren't genetically part of you, it's ok to hate them.

Although I am in fact SICK AND TIRED of hearing girls criticize thier own faces. Jeeze, as a guy I just don't get that. I can understand thinking something on your face is gross, but your face itself has always been there, it's not like it can feel out of place, it is the way it's supposed to be. Plus 99.99% of girls who talk about their face being thier worst feature don't have ugly faces. Seriously, nobody cares that much about what your face looks like. In fact, I'll bet you that NOBODY cares about your face as much as you do.

And if you're a dude than I have no idea weather or not women will care. Personally I've never heard a male complain about thier face, so If you are in fact a dude then I'm even more suprised about how much your look means to you. It's a sad truth but men's appearance isn't judged as harshly as women's. Posture and hygien go a long way, that's about all you need to worry about.

Try to stay away from gel and hair coloring. Hair color never looks right on a man because it is one dimensional, and hair gel with only make it look greasier. Girls don't dig gel. For your skin, I use this LTD tweezerman thing (not sure what it's called) with one side for black heads and one for white heads. It really cleared up my skin and it doesn't leave marks like when you pop them yourself. It's a pit painful, but worth it. You can find it at any drug store. It's like a long silver stick with hooks at each end.

Head over to Macy's and just ask what they think would look best on you. Try out different styles of clothes and move away from the stoner/skater look. Try something a bit classier and as for your hair, try a different color and keep it short and gelled back so it doesn't look greasy. For your face, i found that neutrogena acne wash and proactive actually work. I hope I helped

Work out, don't change the entire wardrobe right now, because if you're scrawny you might change sizes when you get fit. Although.. you might buy a few fashion mags to check out for new outfits. I do judge girls based on what they wear.

Your posture will imporove too. I've never seen an athletic girl walking like a gorilla.

The skin fixes itself, i'm a guy and had pretty bad skin when i was a teen -it's alright now. Regular visits to a cosmetologist really help too.

Your bags might be related to bad sleeping habits/ bad diet. If they don't go away after you improve -might be genetics.

I believe that these kind of makeovers are very realistic, but depend on you entirely. good luck!

Totally true but I'm always looking for something simpler if I can, haha! Never thought of that though, posture would improve with fitness so if I focus on working out a bit I might start to improve in posture too.

Oh I am trying all of them, but I was just asking which you might think are more important to focus on. I know they're all relevant. I'm thinking of focusing on skin right now, but we'll see!
