What's your thought on political correctness?

I think it's ridiculous. Do you?

I don't care, I'm gonna say what I want either way! 22
Simple: I hate PC. 22
It doesn't really matter to me. 7
We need PC so we're not offensive or hurtful to other people. 4
I'm okay with it, people just take it too far. 19

It shouldn't be necessary. Just say what you mean. If you can't do that without offending everyone, the problem is probably you're attitude and not your language.

I think that it complicates titles much more than they need to be complicated and it makes people fear talking about those subjects when even innocent and non-judgmental people can be accused of being racist, prejudice or sexist for not using the "politically correct" terminology.

I am not saying "Don't be respectful of people's feelings!" but there is a big difference between saying that someone is "gay" and saying that someone is a "fag" or saying that someone is "mentally challenged/handicapped" and saying that someone is a "retard".

Obviously, you, the reader, can distinguish what is an innocent use of words and what is just blatantly offensive. However, when we start throwing political correctness into the mix in order to keep everyone happy, we're not only adding confusion to what is a relatively simple terminology to begin with (gay, mentally challenged, black, etc.) but we are also acknowledging that these groups deserve special treatment when, aren't they fighting for equality and equal treatment?

How can I see you as equal when I constantly have to worry about hurting your feelings for what? Not keeping up to date with the "hip" terminology? Having to worry about who will accept me calling them what and under which context? Constantly having to tailor and modify my speech in order to keep from offending you when really, that is not my intention?

Political correctness be damned. There is an obvious difference between using common vernacular and being blatantly hateful and if we, as a society, expect any form of equality when we have people that are constantly on the defensive and not just FIGHTING hatefulness but setting out to, in a way, punish and shame even good, respectful and open-minded people then I say, we're never going to get there.

It's often ridiculous, yes. Although what's worse is people who think respect is bad because it must be political correctness.

PC speak is BS. It is gayer than 8 guys blowing 9 guys. I am not going to call midgets and dwarfs little people. I am not going to call hanicapped people differently abled. I am not going to call black people, African American. I am not going to call rednecks, sons of the soil. I am not going to call retarded people mentally challanged. I am not going to call gay people homosexual. I am not going to call any job title with the word man in it a person like mail person instead of mail man. If it is a woman that happens to bring the mail I will call her the mail woman or mail lady. Fuck letter carrier. I will not call a racism, ethnic pride. I am not going to call ilegals, guest workers. I am not going to call butt fucking, anal intercourse. I am not going to call Muslims, people of Islamic faith. There is no shame in any of those words.

      This also.
There is a big difference between not being "Politically correct" and just being plain rude.

I agree with you I am black and once I was in Mauritius where I made some hindu friends. Mauritius is made up of 90% indians descent. And the girls never used the word black to refer to a black person. They say the christian boy, the christian girl (cause all blacks there are christians). They thought that by not using the word black they were respecting me and were shocked when once I said, "Hey look all those two blacks coming ...". I am black and being called black is not offensive.

Old Political Correctness: A great thing to ensure that everybody feels included into society.

Current PC: NEEDS TO DIE IN A FIRE AND BURN FOR ETERNITY IN HELL

I would rather consciously speak in a "political correct" way than risk offending people. I would much rather not take the risk of being disrespectful. It costs me nothing to be respectful.

I think people often jump on the "let's hate PC!" bandwagon as an excuse to deliberately be offensive.

I have never seen even one person, EVER, say anything like "that's not PC!" at someone else. I have literally never seen a single advocate of strict PC, whereas I've seen hordes of people who are bitterly against it. I think it's absolutely ridiculous to say we have a "PC problem" like a lot of people do. I don't think anybody believes in PC, so there IS NO problem! There are no people trying to control what you say in the name of PC. There are no people who want to mute your right to speak freely in the name of PC. If those people do exist, it is obvious that they are in an insignificant minority compared to anti-PC people. "PC culture" is an illusion.

If someone calls you out on being politically incorrect then let's face it, you were probably being a dick.

I completely hate the term. It's just an all-purpose smear against anything the person saying it doesn't agree with. And since it has no actual meaning, it's an accusation that's impossible to defend against.

As long as what you say is not offensive such as calling a black person "nigger" then I don't care whether you are political or not.
