What's your opinion on object sexuality and animism? iin?

OBJECT SEXUALITY: "a pronounced emotional and often romantic desire towards developing significant relationships with particular inanimate objects.

Those individuals with this expressed preference may feel strong feelings of attraction, love, and commitment to certain items or structures of their fixation.

For some, sexual or even close emotional relationships with humans are incomprehensible.

Some object-sexual individuals also often believe in ANIMISM, and sense reciprocation based on the belief that objects have souls, intelligence, and feelings, and are able to communicate."

( "Contrary to sexual fetishism, the object to an OS person is viewed as their partner and not as a means to an end to enhance a human sexual relationship." )

I watched a show about OS/Animism recently, but I still don't know what my beliefs on it are. I guess I'm at a live and let live standpoint.

  • People project human emotions. We have a tendency to see faces in things like cars...headlights for eyes, grille for a smile, etc., and grant human emotions to metal, plastic, and glass.

...personally, I think it's a load of bullshit. One more way for needy people to expect coddling.

I believe there was a character called Jhonny in the show "Edd. Ed and Eddy" who had this. Use to run around carrying a plank with eyes and a mouth painted on it. Use to say that plank would talk to him. I see nothing wrong with such things. If someone really becomes attached to an inanimate object well let them. I think its similar to being attached to a sentimental trinket. Like a doll or a stuffed animal.

yep, johnny 2x4. and the piece of wood was named Plank. Man, that cartoon was one of my childhood favorites.

he even made plank some parents one episode, and eddy ends up breaking them in half in some scheme.

I think I saw this on an episode of QI- a woman married a brick wall!

Seems pretty harmless, I wouldn't OBJECT to it (see what I did there?)

I believe inanimate objects have souls, or at least some sort of essence about them that we don't fully comprehend. An obvious example would be automobiles. Many people treat their automobiles like they have feelings, understandings and even reactions (i.e. I always say my car is happy after I've washed it and it drives unhappy after I've let my boyfriend drive it.)And then there are the people who hump cars when they're drunk. Same with my computer - anytime someone else uses it, even for normal, unharmful stuff, it seems to start having problems just because it doesn't like anyone else using it. It never fails.

I don't put a lot of belief in this, but it wouldn't surprise me much to learn that objects can somehow, in some strange way, evaluate their surroundings.. especially mechanical objects.

I also think such feelings for objects are more common than is pronounced, although object sexuals take this notion much further than most. We do live in a materialistic society.

pretty much sounds like an alternative to not having/finding a human SO or not being able to deal with the fallibility of people. the relationship is one-sided (although i figure those people must attribute perfect/ideal correspondence to their feelings) and the object will never let them down. weird to me but i can see why someone would turn to an inanimate partner. i did not see the show though, perhaps it explains it better

As I child I had a strong belief all inanimate objects had souls but that they weren't able to move because they didn't have the kind of bodies we do. Strange to think there's actually a name for it.

Anyway, I don't see anything wrong with it in most circumstances. The fact that some have difficulty forming relationships with human's may suggest some issues with early attachment, however.

I have watched this program too - Taboo I think it was and I was quite surprised and shocked. I think that these people are not normal at all and O just can't understand them, especially when that woman makes love to the Eiffel Tower. This was quite strange.

In my opinion , i feel like it isn't normal . I however , had sex with a pillow , but that's just me fantasizing and horny but personally I wouldn't ever "love" a pillow. I feel like object sexuality is disturbing and if you have it i recommend you getting help because it is not healthy.

It's also called objectophilia. A bloke on My Strange Addiction was in love with his car. Not even kidding.

I don't 'love' inanimate objects but I do talk to them like they can hear me. Like I yell at my phone when it doesn't work right, to the point where I sound like an abusive parent, then I say "thank you" and "good job" when it does something right. Maybe I'm crazy.

    It's a pathological behavior.

  • I do believe stuff is alive but I do not feel sexual attraction towards my stuff.
I do however have an extreme emotional connection towards certain objects that I consider to be magical objects. Its probably similar to how some people have sentimental value to things but a bit more so because I feel more connection towards these items than I do to most people. I have several things I might even kill someone if they did anything towards such as steal or break them. At the same time I have certain expensive items that I wouldn't be too bothered by if I lost. Most my magic items are simple things.

I can't put myself in the shoes of a person who feels that way, but they can do what they want and it don't bother me none.
