My first thought was that the officers were poorly trained while the old man had excellent battle training, probably Vietnam veteran. The officers had too much patience with him, which eventually cost them lives. When I read farther about the case turned out I was right, The officer Kyle Dinkheller was only 22 years old, which would indicate that he was a rookie and it was most likely his first serious encounter, while the attacker Andrew Brannan was a Vietnam combat veteran who knew exactly what he was doing. Its hard to say if it was a lack of proper training or the inexperience, because no matter how well they train you, the first time when you realize your life is on the line you can never be ready for it.
Who knows if that old man had killed before or was in a war. I am usually one to hate on cops but this is no good. When they captured the old guy, they should have shot him dead on sight like Osama Bin Laden. This evil act cannot be forgiven.
I'd probably gun him down the second he grabs that rifle.
The trooper panicked and it escalated very quickly, still -better be a killer, than a corpse.

My first thought after skipping through the video was a memory of a guy I knew. He seemed like a normal person. Then one they he shows me a video on his cell phone where a man gets brutally murdered. He thought it was hilarious. I just thought "What the fuck is wrong with you???". And I never spoke to him again.
There are far to many sick fucks out there who enjoy this stuff.
What the fuck trained policeman gets killed by crazy old dude? I think that policeman should have killed him first.

This is outright disturbing. The policeman should have been able to take care of it, but shooting at paper targets once a year isn't enough practice.
I also think I saw him picking up the spent casings. Who does that in a combat situation?
That was probably his first combat situation so he probably fell back to muscle memory or his range behavior during the whole incident. That is fatal in a real life situation.
The moral of the story is cops need more practice! Blowing off 40 rounds a year isn't enough. I know a few people who burn through 10,000 rounds a year and they would probably take that guy out like it was nothing.
I am not criticising the cop. I am criticisng the department's lack of training for their finest.
