Seriously? The Zodiac killer, people? Come on! He was basically a troll.

DB Cooper. It's easy to get away with murder, he's the only one to get away with skyjacking. Ever. Where the hell did he go? Did he live? I really wonder.

I agree with you, nobody will ever pull that off again. He must have died though.

The Boy in the Box is perhaps the most tragic unsolved crime ever, it's also a very bizarre one. The shape of the boy's head are quite weird, and he look like he was beaten to death.

That one isn't "unsolved", merely unproven.

I watched some of that case on court TV.

I kind of have a rough theory. And I honestly think the prosecution fucked this one up. They could have nailed her on child neglect, obstruction of justice, and various other child neglect and abuse related charges, hell, maybe even manslaughter, but they were going for the Gold Medal on Bronze Medal worthy evidence. No jury is going to sentence anyone to death over circumstantial evidence.

First off, it was set up way too well. Not nearly enough DNA evidence to convict, as I said, but it was obviously set up to appear to be a kidnapping. I think that the Father was in on it but his daughter (whom I believe may be mentally challenged in some way, or a complete and total ditz) fucked it all up for him. I believe that the child was killed by accident (a trauma injury) or by way of a fit of rage done by the Father or Casey. I honestly think that something is mentally wrong with Casey and she became just an unwitting participant.

I'm thinking that the Father went the distance to cover up for his daughter and she didn't comply as well as he wanted her to. Being a police chief for so long, he has the experience and as far as I am concerned, he did a fantastic job despite her being caught. On the flip side, if he killed the child on purpose or by accident, he was covering for himself, but I believe that ultimately, whether or not he was involved with the child's death, he was directly involved in the events preceeding and I highly, highly doubt that the Mother was in on it.

I think that the Father's intervention would have worked had Casey done as he said, and had she not gone back home and her Mother had not become alerted to the child's disappearance. I believe that the Father made a huge mistake for leaving Casey in charge of the execution of the plan but had all gone as he had planned, it would have appeared that the child was kidnapped, killed and the Mother was just a victim of a horrific creep.

In short, I think the Father had a huge amount of involvement with the plan and might have been the one that killed Caylee too, I believe he had a lot of influence over Casey and she probably believed that he was doing his best to cover for her when really he was covering his own ass.

I also think it is possible that the child was injured during an illegal act on the part of the Father or Casey and became subjected to a mercy killing (by way of the chloroform). Either way, I don't think all avenues of the case were clearly approached and I definitley believe that the media projected this case all sorts of wrong.

A Mother killing her daughter is tragic and heart breaking but a conspiracy to cover up an accident is too complicated for most people to want to listen to while watching TV.

Fascinating poll! I'm addicted to reading about this type of crime and to this day I'm still very intrigued by the Black Dahlia case. It may not be as abundant as Jack or the Zodiac, victim-wise, but the images of her dead body impress me so very much. Her lifestyle before her death and her story, the decade when it happened, the subtleties and details make for such an amazing case, IMO. No, I have not seen the movie, but it sure is a noir case!

You do have an awesome list there!! I love any art theft story, jewelry, cash, plane, etc. where there are no vics. :)

That's a tough one, considering I'm extremely interested in this kind of stuff. But I would have to say The Zodiac Killer, or Jack The Ripper. And by the way, it's Jonbenet not Jon Benet.

  • ooooh, I forgot a good one!! The Chicago Tylenol Murders. Good because it's unsolved still, the Unabomber is a (new!!) suspect, and it spawned so much, from copycat killings to tamper-evident packaging and anti-tampering laws.

Tupac and Biggie Smalls were killed by Shug Knight, everyone knows that.

JonBenet Ramsey was an interesting one, but I am convinced that her father knows or has a good idea of who did it, because it could not have been a stranger.

Your list is fantastic. I might go look some of them up to refresh myself on the cases. But I choose other in favor of the Lizzie Bourden case. Very interesting, I heard that one of her lawyer's journals was sold to a museum recently. I'd love to see the contents...

Haha, the only reason I know about the Black Dahlia case is because of LA Noire xD

But I think I'll be boring an unoriginal and say Jack the Ripper because I think it's fascinating that even today we can't solve a case that happened over two hundred years ago.

They are all very interesting, but I think my favorite is DB Cooper. I mean, I know by all means the man was kind of a terrorist, but I think the whole story is pretty badass. One man set his mind to do something, did it, then dissapeared without a trace, except for some money found in the woods years later.

Black Dahlia is one of the weirdest because of all those people who confessed to it but hadn't actually done it, and the girl's address book with one page ripped out.

The New Orleans Axe Man was a strange one too because of the similarity of the victims. That guy really had a grudge.
